قالوا المديح تزلّف

محض ومنه تأفّفوا

They say praise is mere flattery

Pure sycophancy from which they recoiled

والكلّ يرجو مدحه

باللّه أين المنصف

Yet they all seek praise for themselves

By God, where is justice?
