إليك كما ارتضيته من بعيد

قصيدا في غرامك من نشيدي

To you as I desired from afar

A poem of my passion and song to you

عرضته قبل مبعثه عليكم

وهاكه حسب صدقي في الوعود

I presented it before sending it your way

And here it is, true to my promise

ولم أبخل به وبخلت عني

فلم تسمح بمقدمك السعيد

I did not begrudge it, though you begrudged me

And did not permit your happy approach

وقد أفرغت في الانشاد جهدي

الى أن أبت بالجهد الجهيد

I exerted myself in reciting and singing

Until I was exhausted by the great effort

تجاوزنا ثمانية عقودا

فهل له بعد عتقه من مزيد

We have traversed eight decades

What more can be added after its freedom?
