1. بالله أيكما الميت فنبكيه

    بالله أيكما الحي نعزيه

    By Allah, which of the two shall we mourn,

    By Allah, which of the two shall we comfort,

  2. قضيتماها كما شاء الوفا لكما

    ستين عاما بإخلاص وتنزيه

    You both fulfilled it as fate willed,

    Sixty years in loyalty and integrity,

  3. ما فرقت صالحا عيناي من حسن

    لما نعى أحد الخلين ناعيه

    No virtuous eye of mine parted from the beauty,

    When one of the two friends was announced deceased by the other,

  4. هذا المسجي نعم هذا شقيق أبي

    هذا الشبيه به في الموت ثانيه

    This engraved poem, yes this is the brother of my father,

    This one resembling him in death like no other,

  5. قلب القليبي وبيت الخزندار معا

    عزاهما الفضل في مرزوئهم فيه

    The heart of Al-Qalibi and the house of sorrow together,

    Were consoled by merit in their burial ground,

  6. قلب القليبي وحسن العهد يفعمه

    وجدا وينشره نشرا ويطويه

    The heart of Al-Qalibi and loyalty's perfection revitalized,

    Grief spreading it, folding it and laying it down,

  7. ينعيه في الحسن الاخلاص ما نعيت

    فيه الصداقة وارتاعت لأهليه

    You lamented him in sincere goodness like no other lamented,

    In it friendship startled and his family shuddered,

  8. سر أيها العم الفردوس مقتبلا

    فيه المكافاة عما كنت تأتيه

    Journey o uncle to Paradise willingly,

    In it the reward for what you used to do,

  9. يا مفعم القلب ايمانا ومرجه

    ذكرا ومعرفة فينا لباريه

    O heart filled with faith, remembrance,

    And knowledge of the Creator,

  10. أديت فرضك للديان من صغر

    حتى الممات وحق الله معطيه

    You fulfilled your obligation to the Judge from youth,

    Until death, and the right of God you gave,

  11. أخلصته عملا للّه محتسبا

    فليشهد البيت ولتشهد لياليه

    You worked sincerely for God's sake,

    So the house bears witness, and the nights testify,

  12. ما لوثت يدك البيضا حقوق فتى

    ولا دعتك إلى حكم دواعيه

    Your hand never wronged the rights of a young man,

    Nor did desires call you to their rule,

  13. ولا تشامخت أنفا أو رضخت إلى

    عسف الزمان وان جلت دواهيه

    You never became arrogant or yielded,

    To the tyranny of time even if its illnesses spread,

  14. لك الصراحة في قول وفي عمل

    ما كنت في مجلس إلا تحليه

    You were candid in word and deed,

    You never sat in a gathering except adorning it,

  15. خلالك البيض ما انفكيت تحرسها

    حتى دعاك إلى المأوى مناديه

    Your path was unsullied protected by you,

    Until the caller to the abode called you,

  16. هذا ضريحك بالجلاز مقتبس

    أنوار صاحبه الحامي مريديه

    This is your tomb illuminated,

    By the lights of its Master, your followers' guide,

  17. لاقيت صهرك يا متبوعه عجلا

    يرثيك في صهرك الميهوب راثيه

    You met your brother-in-law hastily,

    Lamenting you, for your bereaved brother-in-law lamenting you,

  18. ما كان أعظم في الآلين خطبكما

    ما أغلظ الدهر قلب في مساويه

    Of calamities that befell your two houses,

    None was greater, none hardened hearts like them,

  19. اليتم واليم في البيتين دمعهما

    على المصابين جار في مجاريه

    The orphans and widows in both houses, their tears,

    Flowing for the stricken, running their course,

  20. ميتان في ساعة أعظم بوقعتها

    عينان غمضتا من غير تشبيه

    Two dead in an hour, greatest in its impact,

    Two eyes closed without even a blink.
