    كأس صفو وبرياها اسقني

    Give me, O Tunisian, from her cream

    A cup of purity, let me drink her fresh water

  2. فهي ليلى وأنا قيس بها

    ومن الإيمان حب الوطن

    She is Layla, and I am Qays with her

    And part of faith is love of homeland

  3. شهرتي في حبها شهرته

    قل كفى هذا التغالي شرفا

    My passion for her is her passion

    Say enough, this exaggeration is honorable

  4. وكذا قل غيرتي غيرته

    فبحمد الله نحن الحلفا

    And say my zeal is her zeal

    With God’s grace we are allies

  5. فكلانا أينعت زهرته

    وكلانا بالغرام اتصفا

    We both blossomed in our prime

    And we both were characterized by love

  6. أبدا لا أنثني عن حبّها

    فالهوى العذري قد لازمني

    I will never deviate from loving her

    For innocent passion has possessed me

  7. كيف أسو والمنى في كسبها

    وهي نعم الكسب عند المقتني

    How can I forget when gain is my goal?

    And she is excellent gain for the buyer

  8. هي فوق الأرض فردوس يرى

    من فراديس النعيم الأخروي

    She is above the earth a paradise seen

    Among the gardens of ethereal bliss

  9. ماء عين في الأنابيب جرى

    نحن والأشجار منه نرتوي

    Water from a spring flows in pipes

    We and trees are watered by it

  10. ومن الأنوار سيّال سرى

    كهربائيا بخط مستوي

    And a flood of light flows

    Electrically in a straight line

  11. رحبت واتسعت بحسبها

    وارتقت طبق ارتقاء الزمن

    She flourished and expanded accordingly

    And rose, rising with time

  12. جررت في التيه ذيل عجبها

    وازدهت عن كل مصر مدني

    She dragged the tail of her wonders in the desert

    And excelled over every Egyptian city

  13. من أناخ الركب في أبوابها

    قال هذي غرم ذات العماد

    Those who moored at her gates said

    “This is the beloved land of pillars”

  14. إذ يرى الخضراء في أثوابها

    بلدة كانت على وفق المراد

    When they saw the green in her clothes

    A country that was ideally perfect

  15. اعتلت شأنا على أترابها

    اعتلاء الشأن في بانت سعاد

    She rose high above her peers

    The rise of glory was evident in her good fortune

  16. كم بها من ظبية في سربها

    من ظبا الافرنج غصنا تنثني

    How many gazelles in her herd

    Of European gazelles bend a branch

  17. رق منها الخصر ما في ثوبها

    غير لطف بدلا من بدن

    Her waist is delicate inside her clothes

    Nicer than a physical body

  18. يا لباب البحر فينا من كناس

    تتجلى منه غزلان النقى

    O sea gate, how many anchors in us

    Where gazelles of sincerity emerge

  19. تسلب الألباب من ذاك اللباس

    فهي أزياء بها الحسن ارتقى

    Who steal hearts with that dress

    They are clothes in which beauty rose high

  20. كم قلوب تحت أقدام تداس

    كلما يبدو محيا مشرقا

    How many hearts trampled beneath feet

    Whenever a radiant smile appears

  21. سيجت أنهاجه من قضبها

    وعليها ذلك النور السني

    Its streams were fenced by its canes

    And that sunlight upon it

  22. وترامت سكك في تربها

    حيث يجري الأفعوان المنحني

    And roads sprawl in its soil

    Where snakes meander

  23. هو ذاك الرتل جواب القفار

    محدث الأنفاق في جوف الجبال

    That is the train, answering the desert

    Burrowing tunnels in the mountains’ core

  24. شامخ الأنف بأنفاس البخار

    جهوري الصوت قوام الليالي

    Lofty-nosed with steam breaths

    Thundering voiced, brave at nights

  25. فهو كالبركان يرمي بالشرار

    ينهب الأرض انتهابا باغتيال

    It is like a volcano spewing sparks

    Plundering the earth with ambush

  26. مثله ذات العصي في سحبها

    ذيل سلك فوق ذاك الغصن

    Like the thunderbold in its clouds

    A wire’s tail above that branch

  27. تتمشى الكهربا في قلبها

    لتجد السير بالمستظعن

    Electricity walks in its heart

    To move smoothly with the willing

  28. وقصور شامخات زخرفت

    تتناغى ناطحات للسحاب

    And towering palaces ornated

    And competitng skyscrapers

  29. وإدارات بها قد نظمت

    وجرى تنظيمها مجرى الحساب

    With administrations organized in them

    And their organization done as calculated

  30. وثنايا واضحات مهدت

    ومماش ورياض ورحاب

    With clear paths paved

    And parks, meadows and spaces

  31. وكراسي صففت في جنبها

    يستوي عنها الفقير والغني

    Chairs lined up on its side

    Where poor and rich are equal

  32. وشجيرات زهت بقربها

    كاسيات حسنت للأعين

    And shrubs bloomed near it

    Beautifying sights

  33. وجنان قد تسمى البلفدير

    جنة الفردوس قولوا باختصار

    And gardens called Belvedere

    Say Paradise briefly

  34. كللت أرجاؤه لا بالحرير

    بل بأزهار كساها الازدهار

    Its corners crowned not with silk

    But with flowers adorned it prosperity

  35. وبه قصر فخيم كالسدير

    قمر بالليل شمس بالنهار

    And in it a magnificent palace like fire

    Moon at night, sun at day

  36. كم أماطت غيده لتربها

    عن محيا فاتن مستحسن

    How much it lifted its train from its soil

    Revealing a charming, beautiful smile

  37. يتلظى منه قلب صبها

    حيث ذاك الحسن منشا الشجن

    That ignites the hearts of those who admire it

    Where that beauty is the origin of passion

  38. يا كناس الريم يا مأوى الظبا

    يا مقر الأنس يا روص السرور

    O creek of sand, home of gazelles

    O abode of intimacy, garden of joy

  39. كم على الاغصان هبت من صبا

    كم ليال أطلعت فيك البدور

    How much zephyr blew on its branches

    How many nights the full moons rose in you

  40. كم تلقّى في الهوى منك النبا

    عاشق حنّت له فيك الطيور

    How much passion you received from a lover

    Whose birds chirped for him in you

  41. كم أناس ذهلت عن لبّها

    ورأت فيه مرائي الوسن

    How many people were distracted from themselves

    And saw mirrors of beauty in it

  42. والهوى كالكهربا في جذبها

    جرّنا للغيد جرّ الرسن

    And passion pulls like electricity in its pull

    It pulled us to the beautiful one, pulls iron

  43. مالنا وللغواني والهوى

    واحتسا الصهباء من جوف الدنان

    We are inclined to love, passion and infatuation

    And took the blond one from the core of the chinars

  44. إنما حبّي لشعبي قد ثوى

    في الحشا قل هكذا الحب المصان

    But my love for my people has nested

    In the most protected sanctuary of pure love

  45. فلتهزوا أيها القوم اللوا

    في حمى الخضرا فوجه الحظّ بان

    Shake, O people, shake the banners

    In defense of the green, good fortune appears

  46. تونس من شرقها لغربها

    في ارتياح دل عن عيش هني

    From east to west Tunisia

    Is comfortable, indicating a pleasant life

  47. زادها رب الورى في خصبها

    لترى أبناءها ما تقتني

    Its Lord increased its fertility

    To see its children acquire what they desire

  48. أيها الأقوام كونوا نبلا

    وارفعوا بالله شأن التونسي

    O people, be noble

    And raise, by God, the status of Tunisians

  49. لا يكون المرء فيها رجلا

    وهو ذو رأس بها منكس

    One cannot be a man in it

    If his head in it bows down

  50. فارتقوا بالفضل هامات العلا

    وانشدوا ما قلت بالتحمس

    So rise through virtue, ambitions of height

    And recite what I have said with fervor
