I sent you, O Jareer, from al-Lahood
So tell them, without you they wouldn't know my existence
Either you get it right or you die
As you start and end in stillness
Remember, O feeling, my grace
And how much you were in need of my generosity
How much you extracted from my deep knowledge
And told the people "These are my compositions"
And how much you repaired with it a ruined abode
And how much evidence you have in my poetry
If I took it back, eyes would be blinded
To your book of poetry and ode
So take it, it is discharged charity
And what is obligatory on refined pearls
And if you got whips of flogging
I have not flogged anyone but slaves
