يا صاحب الذوق السلي

م ويا فتى الفتيان

O you of refined taste and wit,

And O the finest of youths,

لو قيل لي أقم الدلي

ل على رقي الشبان

If I were asked to describe the heartthrobs of the young,

I would set the verse-diadems firmly, with the ease of diadems.

لأقمت تيجان البيا

ن براحة التيجاني

For in you the title of glory beams resplendent in proof.

There is no defect in its account,

مذ فيك عنوان النجا

بة ساطع البرهان

And poetry is weighed in the balance.

لا نقص في ميزانه

والشعر بالميزان
