1. خذ من أبيك وصايا يا سمي أبي

    أنت الأحق بها قبل اتصالك بي

    Take the advices of your father, my pillar

    You are more worthy of them before connecting with me

  2. لم أجن رغم رهين المحيين على

    من كان بي موجدا في أمة العرب

    I have not begotten despite being hostage to the praiseworthy

    Of the one who brought me into existence among the Arab nation

  3. استخرجتك يد الأقدار من عدم

    فلم أكن فيك يا منجي سوى سبب

    The hand of fate extracted you from non-existence

    So I was not in you, O savior, but a cause

  4. ما كنت إلا لمن أنشاك واسطة

    فاعرف حقوقه واعرف بعده نسبي

    I was nothing but an intermediary for the one who created you

    So recognize his rights and recognize my inferior lineage after him

  5. يا مصطفى الجد من داجي الضلال إلى

    نور الهدى فاحي منسوبا لخيرني

    O Mustafa the grandfather who guided from the misguidance of aberrance to

    The light of guidance, so resurrect attributed to the two best clans

  6. لولا الغزاة لكانت ساقس بلدي

    لا تونس وطني السامي ومطلبي

    Were it not for the invaders, Sfax would have been my country

    Not Tunis my sublime homeland and my desire

  7. لله أسياف عثمانين منقذة

    قطري وآلي وما جاءاك في حقب

    To God belong Ottoman swords that rescued

    My country and my family and what came to you across eras

  8. الأول الفحل ذو النورين فاتحها

    والآخر الخان من جدي إليه سبى

    The first is the stalwart opener of them

    And the other is the Khan from my grandfather to whom he was attributed

  9. آل الحسين وهم مستوزروه بهم

    يا خزنداري تثمينا من اللقب

    The family of Hussein and they are his ministers thereby

    O treasurer esteeming from the title

  10. هذي أصولك ألحق بالفروع لها

    نسلا كريما بما أوتيت من حسب

    These are your origins, join the branches to them

    A noble progeny with what you were given from lineage

  11. واخدم بلادك وارفع شأن أمتها

    ما خدمة الشعب إلا أشرف الرتب

    And serve your country and raise the status of its nation

    For serving the people is the most honorable of positions

  12. واجعل لسانك كالقرآن منطقه

    فالجنس يحفظ بالأخلاق والأدب

    And make your tongue like the Quran its logic

    For kin is preserved by morals and etiquette

  13. وعامل الناس لا خوفا ولا طمعا

    بل احتسابا يراه خير محتسب

    And treat people neither out of fear nor greed

    But for the sake of God the best trustee

  14. وأحبب عباده وابغض فيه منكرهم

    واستنزل الحلم فيهم موضع الغضب

    And love His servants and hate their wrongdoings in it

    And bring down forbearance in them in place of anger

  15. واستعذب المر واستصغر مكارهها

    واصعد بهمتك القعسا مع الشهب

    And make the bitter sweet and trivialize its displeasures

    And ascend with your ambition high with the stars

  16. هي الحياة شقاء فاحتمله بها

    من جانب الفضل إذ لا بد من تعب

    Life is misery so endure it therein

    From the side of grace since toil is inevitable

  17. إياك والتيه عجبا والغرور بما

    يزهى بظاهره واربأ عن الريب

    Beware of bewilderment, wonder and arrogance in what

    Radiates externally and avoid suspicion

  18. واستحقر الموت واستعظمه في جسد

    وفي شعور وعش للجد لا اللعب

    And scorn death and venerate it in body

    And in feeling and live for seriousness not play

  19. وان تصبيت فانظر للجمال وقل

    سبحان واهبه سبحان مرتقبي

    And if you err then look to beauty and say

    Glory to its Granter, glory to my aspirant

  20. شاهد معاقرها وانظر مقامرهم

    كل تجرد من عقل ومن نشب

    Witness its drinkers and look at their gambling

    Everyone stripped of mind and purpose

  21. وانصف خصومك واجعل منك حاكمهم

    أولى بك الحق داء من شفا الكذب

    And be just to your opponents and make yourself their judge

    Truth suits you more than the cure of lies

  22. واكبح جماح الجرشي قبل كبوتها

    من أهملت نفسه ألقته في العطب

    And restrain the reckless before their ruin

    Whoever neglects himself casts himself into affliction

  23. وإن تسمعت فاستهوتك أغنية

    حاذر سقوطك بين اللهو والطرب

    And if the singing captivates and entices you

    Beware of falling between distraction and enchantment

  24. صوت الضمير إذا تشدو بلابله

    صوت الحقيقة جذاب لمنجذب

    The voice of conscience if it sings with its nightingales

    Is the voice of truth alluring to the attracted

  25. وفي الطبيعة للمجلي بصيرته

    فيها من العلم ما يغني عن الكتب

    And in nature for the insightful is his vision

    In it is knowledge that suffices books

  26. فاملأ وطابك بالعرفان مفعمة

    في الناس صافية أشهى من الضرب

    So fill your lute with wisdom imbued

    Pure among people, sweeter than strumming

  27. واللبس من الخلق المحمود ضافية

    تنسل إليك الورى من كل ما حدب

    And wearing clothes from creation is praiseworthy, pouring unto you

    People from every dune and flatland

  28. واعمل بعلمك ما يجديك آخرة

    تستثمر الغرس عند المربع الخصب

    And work with your knowledge what benefits you in the hereafter

    The planted are harvested in the fertile field

  29. غالب عداك بإسداء الجميل لهم

    وانصب به الفخ أشراكا من الذهب

    Vanquish others by bestowing goodness upon them

    And with it set up for them traps of gold

  30. بالاستقامة إما كنت منتقما

    من حاسديك فما انفكت عن اللهب

    With righteousness whether you took revenge

    From your enviers you have not deviated from the flames

  31. وارع الأمومة فيمن كنت مجهدها

    حملا ووضعا وإرضاعا وأنت صبي

    And obey motherhood in she who you burdened

    With carrying, birth, nursing while you were a child

  32. واعطف عليها التي شاطرتها كبدي

    عطف الشقيقين محفوظا من الوصب

    And show her compassion she who shared my liver with you

    The compassion of siblings preserved from hunger

  33. أوصيكما بالذي أوصى الاله به

    فلترعياه وهذا غاية الأرب

    I advise you both with what the God advised

    So obey it as this is the pinnacle of duty

  34. أمليتها حكما بالشعر في نسق

    كنز لحافظه من خير مكتسب

    I dictated it in wisdom through poetry in rhythm

    A treasure for its keeper from the best gains

  35. هذي بني وصاني إن عملت بها

    نلت انعطافي كما نلت انعطاف أبي

    These my son are my testaments if you act upon them

    You will attain my pleasure as you attained the pleasure of your father
