أسفي على هذا الزمان وأهله

هذا لعمرك آخر الأزمان

I lament this age and its people

This is truly the last of ages

زمن الغواية والمناكر والخنا

والفحش والإرهاق والخسران

The age of misguidance, denial, and sin

Obscenity, oppression, and loss

سوق المفاسد في رواج بينهم

لا عهد لا ميثاق للأيمان

The market of corruption is thriving among them

No pact or covenant of faith is kept

فإلى الضلالة كلهم متسابق

وإلى الهداية كلهم متوان

All are competing in misguidance

And lagging in guidance

لا الوازع الديني رادعهم ولا

ذكرى ترجعهم إلى الإيمان

Neither religious deterrent stops them

Nor any lesson returns them to faith

ركن الرذيلة في النفوس موطد

أما الفضيلة ما لها من بان

The pillar of villainy is fixed in their souls

While virtue, alas, has no structure

خالوا التعمقق في الظلال تمدنا

غلطوا فباءوا فيه بالخسران

They neglected contemplation in the shadows, civilization intoxicated them

So they erred and met loss through it

من كان في عرش الملاهي جالسا

فكأنما كسرى على الإيوان

Whoever sits on the throne of frivolity

Is like Chosroes on his throne

هذا يغازل هذه وكلاهما

في الموبقات وخزيهم ضوان

This one flirts with that one while both

Frolic in abominations and their shame brings them close

سرب الغواني بين شبان الهوى

ألعوبة في مسرح الشيطان

The throng of singers among the love-smitten youth

Are playthings in the theater of Satan

ساد الفساد فلا غبار عليهمو

شيخ وطفل في الغرام سيان

Corruption prevails, so no wonder they

Young and old in passion are equal

أمر ونهي بينهم لكن على

عكس الذي قد جاء في القرآن

Command and prohibition among them but

Contrary to what the Quran imparts

حال لعمر الحق محزنة فهل

من نظرة للعالم الإنساني

The state, by God, is dismal, so is there

A glance at the human world

غضب الإله ونحن في غفلاتنا

يصمي القلوب ونحن في طغيان

God's wrath while we in our heedlessness

Deafens hearts while we in tyranny frolic

يسطو القوي على الضعيف فإن شكا

ثانيهما المسكين عد الجاني

The strong tyrannize the weak, and if he complains

The poor man regards the other as the culprit

ضاعت حقوق اللّه بين عباده

فأضاع حقهم على العصيان

God's rights are lost among His servants

So He lost their rights to disobedience

فتكت بنا الحرب الضروس ولم نزل

منها نقاسي في البلا ونعاني

Merciless wars have befallen us and we still

Suffer misery and hardship through it

واشتدت الأزمات في أنحائها

لنرى عيانا صولة الديان

Crises have intensified in their regions

For us to see clearly the vengeance of the Judge

حاق العذاب بنا وهذا سخطه

مذ دل عنه الخسف في اليابان

Punishment has come upon us, and this is His wrath

Since the sinking foretold it in Japan

في كل شيء للمهيمن آية

وضجيع يثرب آية الرحمان

In everything is a sign for the Omnipotent

And the resident of Yathrib, the sign of the Merciful

يا من بعثته للبرية رحمة

وجعلت دينه خاتم الأديان

O You who sent him as a mercy to all beings

And made his religion the seal of religions

أرسل بحقه للعباد مجددا

ومؤيدا لهلالنا العثماني

Send, by his right, a renewer to Your servants

And a supporter of our Ottoman crescent

واسلك بنا طرق الكما محققا

آمالنا وانصر بني الأوطان

And make us follow the paths of perfection, fulfilling

Our hopes, and aid the children of the nations

وارفع لتونس في المالك شأنها

وانظر اليها نظرة الإحسان

And raise for Tunis its rank in the dominions

And look upon it with a gaze of benevolence

أنا صوتهم فاسمع بحقك صوتهم

ولسانهم عند الدعاء لساني

I am their voice, so for Your sake, hear their voice

And my tongue in supplication, their tongues

قومي دعوت لهم وهذا ديدني

فيهم وحسبي أنهم إخواني

I called on You for them, and this is my way

For they are my brothers, and that suffices me
