لمتى الوقوف بجانب الأسطول
أنزل وإلا فاقتنع بقفول

أمهاجم يخشى النزال ويتقي
بالدارعات مآل يوم نزول
A fighter who fears battle and avoids

ماذا التأخر والجيوش بكثرة
ورصاص دمدم لم يكن بقليل

ماذا التشفي بالشيوخ وصبية

واقدم لساحة من أطلت وقوفهم

أغراهمو أنا قليلو عدة
في البحر يالمعرة التعويل
It lured them, few we were in
The sea - how we clung to deceit!
فاستمخروا سفنا تقل غنيمة
لاقت من الإسلام خير كفيل
Ready the ships to carry the booty
That found favor with Islam so replete.
فكأنما جاءوا لنجدتنا بها
ولربما أدلى العدى بجميل
As if they came to our rescue with them -
Perhaps even the enemy's heart holds treat.
إنّا بحمد اللّه لم نحتج إذن
لا للسلاح ولا إلى المأكول
With God's praise, we need no weapons,
No rations to eat.
هبنا الليوث تهابها عزلا فلم
تعبأ بنصل حسامك المسلول
The lions terrify even unarmed -
They care not for your blade incomplete.
كف الجبان على الحسام كغمده
والسيف في كفيه كالمغلول
The coward's hand on the sword like its sheath,
The sword in his hands clenched defeat.
لم يجن رعديد الوغى من سيفه
إلا العناء وكثرة التعطيل
No clamor of battle came from his sword
Save hardship and hindrance concrete.
ما للرجال سوى البسالة عدة
لم يفذ ماضي حدها بفلول
Men have only courage as asset,
No glory of past can repeat.
لا سيما أشياع دين محمد
من يلتقون الموت بالتهليل
Especially Muslim creed's devotees
Who meet death chanting praise as they fleet.
ويرون في موت الشهيد حياته
مصداق ما قرأوه في التنزيل
They see the martyr's death as his life,
Affirming what they read in Scripture's sheet.
فاليك إجمال الحديث كعبرة
وإليك ما يغني عن التفصيل
So to you the moral in brief,
To you what details effete.
باكورة الأعمال منا لعبة
بسفينة سخرت من الأسطول
First of our works child's play
With a ship that mocked the fleet.
درنا التي نشرت بيارق خدعة
ما ضرها التحطيم بعد دخول
Derna that flew the flags of deceit
Unharmed by the wreck after entry complete.
لا سيما تهشيمها بيد الذي
ألقى مراسيها على أتريبول
It sailed by the enemy's ships,
Like a bride trailing her sheet.
مرت أمام بواخر الأعداء تم
رح كالعروس تجر فضل ذيول

ألقت مهتمها وألقوها به
بين الهتاف على كمال وصول

Or was like crowning made concrete.
فكأنما التكسير في نظراتهم
إكرامها أو كان كالتكليل
How many more miracles like it
Nearly made them pack up and fleet!
كم من خوارق مثلها وقعت لهم
كادوا بها أن يقلعوا برحيل
They stayed at the shore, hunkered
Under the fleet's shadow complete.
مكثوا بساحات الشطوط تحصنا
برعاية الأسطول تحت طلول
Arabs gathered around their fence
Where death was the hope made replete.
وتجمع العربان حول سياجهم
حيث المنية غاية المأمول
Conquering them grew hard, so they
Conspired against Istanbul's seat.
فتصعّب الفتح المحقّق عندهم
فتآمروا عن محق إسلامبول
The awful war turned its aim
To Islam's shrine with deceit.
فتحول الحرب المهول لكعبة ال
إسلام قصدا أيما تحويل
Four countries allied to
Aid the cross - their aid made concrete.
وتحالفت دول رباعية على
نصر الصليب بغاية التعجيل

To regain the Gospel's defeat.
فتكالب البلقان يجمع قوة
كي يسترد مكاسب الإنجيل
And Christian countries appealed, those
Who hated the Muslim life complete.
واستنجد الدول المسيحية التي
كرهت حياة المسلم المبذول
With "civilization" as their roar,
They quenched their spite murdering foes fleet.
فشفوا بازهاق النفوس غليلهم
باسم التمدن لهجة التدجيل
They congratulated taking Adrianople
And preachers sang with voices replete.
وتبادلوا البشرى بفتح أدرنة
وترنم الخطباء بالترتيل
The vile war paused for council
In London - for lies made concrete.
واستوقف الحرب الأثيمة مجلس
في لندن عقدوه للتضليل
All saw their right to take it
While God from tyrants is discrete.
كل يرى استحقاقه لنوالها
واللّه للطاغين غير منيل
