تطالبك الثمالة باحتساء

فما في سؤر مثلك من شفاء

Thirst compels you to drink,

Yet no cure lies in your illness.

ولو أسأرته عسلا مصفى

لأصبح واجبا غسل الإناء

Were I to mix it with filtered honey,

Washing the cup would still be needed.

جنيت على الزجاجة فهي رجس

يسؤرك حيث لم تطهر بماء

You brought impurity to the bottle,

So I must avoid what water hasn't cleansed.
