1. أعلنوا البشرى فرادى وثبين

    جاء نصر الله والفتح المبين

    Proclaim the glad tidings, singly and in crowds,

    The victory of God has come, and the manifest conquest.

  2. إطرحوا عنكم تباريح الجوى

    وافرحوا، فاليوم عيد المصلحين

    Cast aside the agonies of your burning grief,

    And rejoice, for this day is a festival for the reformers.

  3. خرج الإصلاح من محنته

    وهو عالي الرأس وضاح الجبين

    Reform has emerged from its tribulation,

    With head held high and a brow radiating light.

  4. ونجا (العقبي) و(التركي) من

    غمرات ناهزت بضع سنين

    Al-Okbi and Al-Turki have escaped from

    The depths of peril that lasted several years.

  5. حلق النسران في جوهما

    وانثنت حسرى قلوب الصائدين

    The two eagles have soared into their rightful sky,

    While the hearts of the hunters turned back in defeat.

  6. وخطا الليثان أخطار الزبى

    مستقلين ولاذا بالعرين

    The two lions have strode past the dangers of the trap-pits,

    Free and independent, seeking refuge in their den.

  7. أيها الخلان قد آواكما

    حرم من جانب الشرع أمين

    O friends, you have been sheltered by

    A sanctuary of justice, faithful and secure.

  8. حكم الشرع بتنزيهكما

    ونفى بالحق دعوى المبطلين

    The law has ruled for your innocence,

    And rightfully refuted the claims of the liars.

  9. من عظيم الفخر أن زكاكما

    في حمى الشرع عظام الشاهدين

    It is a matter of great pride that you were vindicated

    Within the court's protection, by witnesses of high standing.

  10. ومحامون بصدق عنكما

    وقفوا للخصم كالسد الحصين

    And lawyers who defended you with sincerity

    Stood against the adversary like an impregnable dam.

  11. (لادمرال) الحر حام جنبهم

    ثابت العزمة كالطود الركين

    The free spirit L'Admiral defended their cause,

    Firm in resolve, like a steadfast mountain.

  12. النصارى واليهود استبشروا

    عندما برئتما كالمسلمين

    Christians and Jews alike rejoiced

    At your acquittal, just as the Muslims did.

  13. واذا الله تولى عبده

    أقبل الخلق عليه طائعين

    For when God takes charge of His servant's affairs,

    All creation turns to him in willing obedience.

  14. فهنيئا لكما ما أعقبت

    هذه البلوى من النصر المكين

    So congratulations to you for the outcome

    Of this trial: a firm and established victory.

  15. سنة الله انتشال المبتلى

    من يد البلوى ولو من بعد حين

    It is God’s way to rescue the afflicted

    From the grip of calamity, even after some time.

  16. والبليات جسور المجد لا

    بد منها لعبور الماجدين

    Tribulations are but bridges to glory;

    Essential for the crossing of noble souls.

  17. كيف لا نلقى أذاها بالرضى

    وهي من أسباب فوز المرسلين

    How could we not meet their harm with contentment,

    For they are among the causes of the Messengers' triumph?

  18. فاز موسى بالمناجاة بها

    وبتسخير العصا في طور سين

    Through trial, Moses won the honor of divine discourse,

    And the power of the staff at Mount Sinai.

  19. وارتقى عيسى الى الله بها

    وشفى العمي وأحيا الميتين

    Through it, Jesus ascended unto God,

    Healed the blind, and raised the dead to life.

  20. وتلقى أحمد النصر بها

    فغزا الأرض وساد العالمين

    Through it, Ahmed received victory,

    Conquering the land and leading all mankind.

  21. في سبيل الله ضر مسنا

    فيكما دون جميع المؤمنين

    In the path of God, harm has touched us,

    Concerning you two specifically among the believers.

  22. ولعل الله ما اختاركما

    دوننا الا لرجحان كمين

    Perhaps God selected you alone

    Instead of us, for some hidden, superior virtue.

  23. ما جنى (الطيب) الا طيبا

    كيف يرضى حثه للمجرمين؟

    Al-Tayeb has reaped nothing but goodness;

    How could he consent to inciting criminals?

  24. كيف يرضى القتل بر مثله

    إن قتل النفس إجرام مشين؟

    How could a righteous man like him condone murder,

    For the taking of life is a shameful crime?

  25. هو في (الملعب) هاد هادئى

    فيه، والمفتي (بلالير)طعين

    He was at the stadium, calm and composed,

    While the Mufti, in La Lyre, lay stabbed.

  26. ما خلا الملعب حتى قيل قد

    قتل المفتي فسرنا واجمين

    He had not left the stadium before it was said:

    "The Mufti is murdered," and we walked on in stunned silence.

  27. وسعى الساعون بهتانا بنا

    وفشا في الشعب قول المرجفين

    Slanderers moved against us with falsehoods,

    And the rumors of alarmists spread among the people.

  28. ادخلونا مأزقا مستهدفا

    للردى فيه وقفنا حائرين

    They drove us into a targeted impasse,

    Facing ruin, we stood there bewildered.

  29. قل لهم موتوا بغيظ واذهبوا

    حسرة إنا خرجنا سالمين

    Tell them: "Die in your rage and begone,"

    "In regret, for we have emerged unharmed."

  30. هي مأساة ومسلاة معا

    دبرت أدوارها للاعبين

    It is both a tragedy and a farce,

    Whose roles were orchestrated for the actors.

  31. وشريط سينمائي حوى

    صورا مدهشة للناظرين

    A cinematic reel containing

    Scenes astonishing to the beholders.

  32. سجل التاريخ منها صحفا

    بيمين الصدق فيها لا يمين

    History has recorded pages from it,

    With the hand of truth, free from perjury.

  33. ان فيها عبرا ملموسة

    وعظات جمة للقارئين

    In it lie tangible lessons,

    And abundant admonitions for those who read.

  34. أيها (العقبي) أقدم ظافرا

    أنك اليوم إمام الظافرين

    O Al-Okbi, step forward in victory,

    For today you are the leader of the triumphant.

  35. وتعزز بشيوخ علية

    وشباب للبطولات خدين

    Take strength in the exalted sheikhs,

    And in youth who are companions to heroism.

  36. لم يزل طول المدى مستحكما

    بيننا حبل من الود متين

    Throughout time, there has remained firm

    A strong cord of affection between us.

  37. لك إلف ليس ينسى الفه

    (وخليل) لا يحب الآفلين

    You have a companion who never forgets his own,

    A friend who loves not things that fade away.

  38. عنده مثلك بالصدق هوى

    وله مثلك للشرق حنين

    He shares your true passion,

    And holds, like you, a longing for the East.

  39. كلما مسك ضر مسه

    وطغى الدمع عليه والانين

    Whenever harm touched you, it touched him too,

    Overwhelmed by tears and groaning.

  40. صحب الشعر صبيا يافعا

    وفتى كهلا يداني الأربعين

    He befriended poetry as a young lad,

    And as a man now approaching forty.

  41. يزعم الغاوون عنه أنه

    في بحور الشعر ربان السفين

    The misguided claim regarding him

    That he is captain of the ship in the seas of verse.

  42. جاءك اليوم بشعر صادق

    عاطفي الوحي قدسي الرنين

    He comes to you today with sincere verse,

    Inspired by emotion, sacred in its resonance.

  43. لا يبالي بعد هذا الشعر أن

    لا يقول الشعر دهر الداهرين

    He cares not, after this poem,

    If he never speaks verse again for all eternity.

  44. قد عرفناك عزيز النفس لا

    ترتضي في موقف أن تستكين

    We have known you as a proud soul,

    Who refuses to submit or cower in any stance.

  45. كيف لا يعتز حر يعتزي

    لبلاد (عقبة) فيها دفين؟

    How could a free man not feel pride, tracing his line

    To the land where Uqba lies buried?

  46. لم تكن في مجلس الشرع سوى

    ثابت مستبسل القلب رزين

    In the court of law, you were nothing but

    Steadfast, brave of heart, and composed.

  47. تنقض الدعوى بقول فيصل

    وترد الشك منها باليقين

    Shattering the accusation with decisive words,

    And repelling its doubt with certainty.

  48. كنت فرد افيه حلت أمة

    وسجينا معه الشعب سجين

    You were a single man, yet a whole nation dwelt within you;

    A prisoner with whom the people were imprisoned.

  49. وحباك الله نصرا باهرا

    أصبح اليوم حديث السائرين

    God has granted you a dazzling victory,

    That has become the talk of all who pass by.

  50. فانتصب فينا زعيما وانتهج

    للمعالي كلى نهج مستبين

    So stand tall among us as a leader, and pursue

    Every clear path toward the heights.

  51. إنما أنت زعيم خالد

    بارز في الزعماء الخالدين

    You are truly an immortal leader,

    Prominent among the leaders of history.

  52. أيها (التركي) أبشر بالمنى

    واغتبط انك فخر المحسنين

    O Al-Turki, rejoice in your hopes,

    And be glad, for you are the pride of the benefactors.

  53. فلكم أسعفت بالمعروف من

    معدم في قبضة البؤس حزين

    How often have you aided with kindness

    A sorrowful pauper in the grip of misery.

  54. كل من نحوك ضر ساقه

    شاقه ما فيك من عطف ولين

    Whoever was driven toward you by misfortune

    Was comforted by your compassion and gentleness.

  55. لا أسميك بعباس فقد

    كنت بساما لكل الوافدين

    I will not call you Abbas [The Stern], for you

    Have always been smiling to all who arrive.

  56. جل صنع الله في تصويره

    للبرايا عن أسامي الواضعين

    Great is God's handiwork in fashioning

    His creatures, far beyond the names men give them.

  57. لا عدمناك رفيقا صادقا

    كاسبا ود الرفاق الصادقين

    May we never lose you as a true companion,

    Who earns the love of sincere friends.

  58. يها الشعب وكل اسم سما

    فهو بعد الله للشعب مدين

    O People, and every name that has risen high,

    Is indebted, after God, to the people.

  59. لك مني الشكر جزلا خالصا

    بعد شكر الله خير الشاكرين

    You have my abundant and pure gratitude,

    After thanking God, the Best of the Appreciative.

  60. قد تبرعت بوفر لا ترى

    فيه منا من ألوف ومئين

    You donated generously, seeing therein

    No favor to claim, from your thousands and hundreds.

  61. ولقيت الخطب جلدا صابرا

    فانعم اليوم بعقبى الصابرين

    You faced the calamity with sturdy patience,

    So enjoy today the reward of the patient.

  62. نزه العدل ولا ترتب بما

    أسلف الشرع وثق بالحاكمين

    Exalt justice, and do not doubt what

    The law has established, and trust the judges.

  63. لست أعني حاكمين استظهروا

    بالقوانين علينا جائرين

    I do not mean rulers who fortified themselves

    With laws to practice tyranny against us.

  64. أنكروا مؤتمرا قمنا به

    نبتغي عدل فرنسا هادئين

    They condemned a congress we convened,

    Calmly seeking the justice of France.

  65. زعمونا فيه أضدادا لها

    وخصوما بئس زعم الزاعمين

    They claimed that in it we were her opponents;

    And enemies—wretched is the claim of liars.

  66. إن اضداد فرنسا معشر

    حكموا باسم فرنسا ظالمين

    The true opponents of France are a faction

    Who ruled in France's name with injustice.

  67. كلما قلنا اقربوا قالوا ابعدوا

    لا نسوي بالفرنج (الأندجين)

    Whenever we said "Come close," they said "Begone,"

    "We will not equate the Indigènes with the French."

  68. لن تنالوا البر حتى ترفضوا

    ما لكم من عنصر باق ودين

    "You shall not receive kindness until you reject

    Your enduring heritage and your faith."

  69. ما لهم يزهون كبرا هل لهم

    عنصر يعزى لطيب لا لطين؟

    Why do they strut in arrogance? Do they possess

    An origin made of perfume, rather than clay?

  70. سوف يدرون وإن طال المدى

    أن هذا الشعب بالمجد قرين

    They will know, though the time be long,

    That this people is the companion of glory.

  71. يشهد التاريخ في أسفاره

    أنه من قبل للمجد قرين

    History bears witness in its tomes

    That of old, they were wedded to glory.

  72. من بقايا أمة (عادية)

    وسلالات غزاة فاتحين

    Remnants of an ancient, mighty nation,

    And lineages of conquering victors.

  73. عن بواديهم وعن أمصارهم

    روت الحكمة (روما) و(أثين)

    Of their deserts and their great cities,

    Rome and Athens have recounted the wisdom.

  74. أيها القوم تحلوا بالرضى

    وتحفوا بالرجال المكرمين

    O people, adorn yourselves with contentment,

    And rally around these honored men.

  75. اعملوا قد فسح الله لكم

    كي يرى آثاركم في العالمين

    Work, for God has opened the way for you,

    That He may see your impact upon the world.

  76. واحمدوا الله على نعمائه

    أنه أهل لحمد الحامدين

    And praise God for His blessings;

    He is worthy of the praise of the grateful.

  77. واجعلوا الخير قصارى قصدكم

    حزتم الخير وفزتم أجمعين

    Make goodness your utmost goal;

    You shall attain the good and triumph, all together.
