1. فاز المجد المعتني بمرامه

    فتنافس الأمجاد في إكرامه

    The diligent seeker who tends to his aim has triumphed, / And glories have vied to honor him.

    The green gardens have readied their birds to hear his speech, / And their flowers to offer him greeting.

  2. قد هيأت خضر الرياض طيورها

    لكلامه وزهورها لسلامه

    All wishes drew near to him, and he was obeyed / Even by Time, which became one of his servants.

    God observed his sincerity in his striving towards Him, / So He did not withhold from him His bounties.

  3. ودنت له كل المنى وأطاعه

    حتى الزمان فعاد من خدامه

    It is He who drew his station near to Himself in reward; / Who then could look down upon his standing?

    The son of learning has attained the goal / To which he has aspired since the age of his weaning.

  4. الله راعى صدقه في سعيه

    معه فلم يحرمه من أنعامه

    He ceased not to wander in search of truths / Until he quenched the burning thirst of his passion.

    Victory is the inevitable lot of the bold, / Provided he employs foresight in his daring.

  5. وهو الذي أدنى إليه مقامه

    شكرا فمن ذا يزدري بمقامه

    O assembly of students, is there among you one who listens / To the revelation of poetry in its inspiration?

    I offer it as wisdom from myself, replete with counsel, / Which one might repeat throughout the span of his days.

  6. قد أدرك ابن العلم غايته التي

    يصبو إليها منذ عهد فطامه

    For the heart is like the earth, or like its people, / And counsel is like the rain, or the clouds that bear it.

    Knowledge is a citadel of glory and felicity, / And through learning, the pillar of its foundation is raised.

  7. ما زال في طلب الحقائق هائما

    حتى شفى منها غليل هيامه

    The understandings of knowledge are boundless, / So vie with one another, O people, in grasping them.

    Knowledge consists of deeds performed, not mere wishes intended, / So walk by the guidance of its banners.

  8. والفوز للمقدام ضربة لازب

    ما استعمل التدبير في إقدامه

    How many a deluded soul has spent the night watching, / Hoping to draw knowledge from his dreams!

    When the time for slumber arrived, he slipped from his robes, / Rejoicing in the hour of his sleep.

  9. يا معشر الطلاب هل من منصت

    منكم لوحي الشعر في إلهامه

    He collapsed into bed, heaviness filling his eyelids, / While weariness permeated his very bones.

    He saw visions therein, obscure with things / That even a madman would not garble in his fit.

  10. أسديه مني حكمة مملوءة

    عظة يرددها مدى أيامه

    Until, when the day broke and the morning sun shone forth, / And the moment of his rising arrived,

    He shook off his cover and stood to speak at length, / Yet only confusing others in expressing his gibberish.

  11. فالقلب مثل الارض أو كأناسها

    والوعظ مثل القطر أو كغمامه

    So grasp the means of knowledge in truth, / And leave the man of illusions to his delusions.

    O assembly of students, is there anyone who takes heed of the Reminder, / Or holds fast to its bond?

  12. العلم صرح مجادة وسعادة

    ومن التعلم شيد ركن قوامه

    Seek honor by adopting its etiquettes, / And learn its lawful and prohibited bounds.

    For everything in life there is an injury, / And the injury done to the Quran comes from its own people.

  13. والعلم لما تنحصر أفهامه

    فتنافسوا يا قوم في أفهامه

    They labored to warn against understanding it, / As if they labored for its very destruction.

    They abandoned its lofty principles and turned away / From its rulings, though all good lies in its rulings.

  14. العلم أعمال تزاول لا منى

    تنوى فسيروا في هدى أعلامه

    They claimed that its truth is error, / And in their claims lies contempt for His words.

    A myth indeed! He who utters such things / Deserves that his very faith be held in doubt.

  15. ولرب غر ظل يرقب ليله

    يرجو استقاء العلم من أحلامه

    O assembly of students, is there among you one who will rise / For the people, a free man guarding his covenant?

    Or one who will breathe into the people a spirit of defiance? / For the death of a people lies in their surrender.

  16. وافاه وقت منامه فانسل من

    برديه معتبطا بوقت منامه

    The wolves would not have wreaked havoc on the flock / Had the lions remained within their thickets.

    Who among you will rescue the Son of Algeria? / For the Son of Algeria is in the throes of death.

  17. وانهال والإغضاء ملء جفونه

    في الفرش والاعياء ملء عظامه

    His maladies are manifold, and the harm inflicted / By his rulers only adds to his sickness.

    The holder of authority is intent on his torment, / And the master of politics is intent on contending with him.

  18. فرأى المرائي معجما فيها بما

    لا يعجم الملموم في إلمامه

    Yours is the unique Tongue, capable of clarity, / Despite those striving to render it obscure.

    Do not neglect this Tongue, for your loss / Lies in its loss, and your endurance in its endurance.

  19. حتى إذا طلع النهار وأشرقت

    شمس النهار وحان حين قيامه

    It is like a necklace of exquisite pearls in arrangement, / With the science of grammar as the thread that binds it.

    And it suffices you in honor regarding grammar / That you narrate its science from its great scholar.

  20. نفض الإزار وقام يخطب مسهبا

    يفتن في الإعراب عن إعجامه

    Ibn Khaldun testified to his superiority in grammar, / Urging that he be held in high esteem.

    So preserve for Abdullah the favor he bestowed upon you / In his 'Drops', and rejoice in its fine conclusion.

  21. فخذوا بأسباب العلوم حقيقة

    وذروا أخا الأوهام في أوهامه

  22. يا معشر الطلاب هل من آخذ

    بالذكر أو متمسك بعصامه

  23. فتشرفوا بالأخذ من آدابه

    وتعرفوا بحلاله وحرامه

  24. ولكل شيء في الحياة أذية

    وأذية القرآن من أقوامه

  25. عملوا على التحذيرمن تفهيمه

    فكأنهم عملوا على إعدامه

  26. هجروا مبادئه العلى وتنكبوا

    أحكامه والخير في أحكامه

  27. زعموا بأن صوابه خطأ وفي

    ما يزعمون زراية بكلامه

  28. أسطورة إن الذي قد قالها

    قمن بأن يرتاب في اسلامه

  29. يا معشر الطلاب هل من ناهض

    بالشعب حر حافظ لذمامه

  30. أو باعث في الشعب روح إباية

    منكم فموت الشعب في استسلامه

  31. ما عاثت الذؤبان في أغنامه

    لو كانت الاساد في آجامه

  32. من منكم لابن الجزائر مدرك؟

    فابن الجزائر في سياق حمامه

  33. أسقامه شتى وأنول الأذى

    من حاكميه تزيد في أسقامه

  34. فأخو الرئاسة مولع بعذابه

    وأخو السياسة مولع بخصامه

  35. لكم اللسان الفذ في إيضاحه

    رغما على الساعين في إبهامه

  36. لا تهملوا هذا اللسان ففقدكم

    في فقده ودوامكم بدوامه

  37. فكأنما هو عقد در فائق

    رصفا وعلم النحو سلك نظامه

  38. وكفاكم في النحو قدرا أنكم

    راوون علم النحو عن علامه

  39. شهد (ابن خلدون) له بتفوق

    في النحو تحظيظا على إعظامه

  40. فارعوا (لعبد الله) ما أسدى لكم

    (في القطر) واغتبطوا بحسن ختامه
