Rise and offer congratulations to the clans,
And announce the glad tidings,
Speak to the soul of its aspirations,
And console the troubled mind.
For this, our present day,
Resembles not the yesterday that has passed away,
And our coming era is worthy
Of surpassing the present.
I see upon the horizon, from the East,
A cloud laden with rain,
About to bring forth in the East
Vegetation lush and fresh.
I see before me a great awakening,
And an era in full bloom.
Stay with me, that I may tell you a tale,
One that is strange and rare to me.
The spirit-seer of the Jinn came,
On one of the nights, visiting a poet.
As if he were the muse Shasar,
When he came to visit Khanafir.
He hovered around him in the realm of sleep,
Fluttering like a bird,
And he filled the house upon the poet
With a fragrant, perfumed scent.
So the poet stared into
The spirit's face, bewildered.
What do I see? I see a countenance
Shining clearly like the morning,
I see a forehead of radiant color,
And a gaze soft and languid.
I see a stature like a slender branch,
Letting down flowing locks of hair.
I see a youth from the youths of the Unseen,
Letting down flowing locks of hair.
I see a youth from the youths of the Unseen,
Beautiful and enchanting.
I see a youth smiling to reveal
A smile that dispels the darkness,
As if it were a vessel of agate
Filled to the brim with jewels.
Carrying in his embrace
Scents and blossoming flowers,
Curved like crescent moons,
With braids folded upon themselves.
Surrounded by a halo of light
That delights the beholder.
Oh wonder! Is he a Jinn,
Or a pure, celestial angel?
Glory be to the One who fashioned for me
This dazzling beauty.
O visitor, never have I seen
A visitor more splendid than he,
O you who possess my emotions
And all my sentiments,
I see you have been endowed
With a bountiful share of grace,
I see upon you the mark of blessings
Shining clearly and openly.
Perhaps you are a herald announcing
The tidings of heaven aloud.
Speak, and I will listen obediently,
And answer you with gratitude.
He said: I have traversed the world of the Unseen,
Journeying towards you,
Leaving behind the pastures of spirits
And the celestial folds.
Bearing unto you a secret
That comforts the inner souls.
So be mindful of what
I am about to cast upon you,
And be a broadcaster of it,
Spreading it throughout the lands.
I heard a voice issuing from
The depths of the Unseen:
The time has come for the Muslim
To find sweetness in his destiny.
Indeed, upon the face of the earth,
He has a glorious imprint.
God refuses that he should
Remain abased and submissive.
Be for him, O Earth, a paradise,
Teeming with life as in days of yore.
Be for him a family,
Be for him a platform of authority.
Tomorrow God will humble those
Who tyrannize you with injustice.
Tomorrow, every oppressed one
Shall rise upon you, victorious.
And a voice calling from before
The Throne, speaking a command:
"O Spirit, go to the children of Earth,"
"And proceed with haste."
"And choose for this mission on Earth"
"A skilled and capable ambassador."
"And I found none but you"
"Capable of revealing it."
"Are you not a healer of the passions,"
"Captivating the hearts?"
"Indeed, within poetry lies a revelation"
"That unveils the hidden conscience!"
So the poet awoke, filled with joy,
And rose early at the break of dawn.
He ceased not to call the villages
And the cities to the path of blessing,
Until he banished misery from the land,
And returned triumphant.
And he who understands, measures the future
By the parallels of the past.
O people, rise against your cares
And misfortunes, in revolt.
O people, the matter is grave, so rise
And earn your glory.
O people, tend with righteous deeds
Your land, Algeria.
And follow therein the landmarks
And feats of your ancestors.
She has borne, and continues to bear,
Free men and free women.
He is not dutiful to his fertile mother
Who perceives her as barren.
Say to those who rushed towards
The call of glory, hastening:
March on by the light of certainty,
And you shall be safe from stumbling.
For God is the best Guardian,
And God is the best Helper.
May the Divine be
A mender of the broken,
And for His sanctuary,
Violated by others, a jealous defender.
For He is the Bestower of honor, first,
And the Bestower of honor, last.
