لك الويل من نعي به هتف البرق

فريع له الإسلام واضطرب الشرق

Woe to you from the one whose death thunder announced,

Woe unto you from a mournful announcement shouted by the telegraph,

Islam's young man, and the East was disturbed,

By which Islam was startled, and the East was shaken.

وردده المذياع من كل موطن

فصمت به الآذان واحتبس النطق

The radio echoed it from every homeland,

The radio broadcast it from every land,

The minarets were silenced by it and speech was suppressed,

Rendering ears deaf and holding tongues captive.

وفاضت به أنهار كل صحيفة

كما فاض من آماقنا دمعها الودق

With it, the rivers of every newspaper overflowed,

The columns of every newspaper overflowed with the news,

As our deep sorrows overflowed with tears.

Just as heavy tears overflowed from our eyes.

فقدنا مليكا عادلا ظهر الهدى

بإنصافه في الحكم وانتصر الحق

We have lost a just king who led to guidance,

We have lost a just king through whom guidance emerged,

With his fairness in ruling, truth prevailed,

By his equity in rule, and through whom truth prevailed.

أقام حدود الله بالسيف وازعا

وبالدين قانونا فدان له الخلق

He established God's limits with the sword as a deterrent,

He established God's laws with the sword as a deterrent,

And with religion as law, people obeyed him.

And with religion as a statute, to which all people submitted.

وحاط حجيج البيت بالأمن بعد ما

عثا في الحجاز البدو وانسدت الطرق

He protected the pilgrims to the Sacred House after

He encompassed the pilgrims of the Sacred House with security, after

The nomads had spread corruption in Hejaz and the roads were blocked.

The Bedouins had wrought havoc in the Hejaz and the roads were blocked.

وشق الثرى واستخرج الماء دافقا

بكل النواحي لا يكف له دفق

He dug the earth and brought out gushing water

He cleaved the earth and drew forth gushing water,

In all regions ceaselessly gushing forth.

In every quarter, a flow that never ceases.

وأخرج تبر الأرض يلمح بالغنى

ويلمع للرائي كما يلمع البرق

He brought out the blessings of the earth displaying prosperity

He brought forth the earth's gold, glimmering with wealth,

And shining to the beholder like lightning flashes.

Shining to the beholder just as lightning shines.

وأنبع آبارا من النفط جمة

بأجهزة في الكشف لم يعيها عمق

He made abundant wells spring from oil riches

And he caused abundant wells of oil to spring forth,

With equipment to discover what depths do not perceive.

With detection instruments that no depth could baffle.

لعمرك إن النفط للشعب ثروة

وعلق نفيس ليس يشبهه علق

By your life, oil is indeed a treasure for the people

By your life, oil is truly a fortune for the people,

And exquisite bounty, nothing equals it.

A precious asset likened to no other treasure.

فعادت به أرض الجزيرة خصبة

كأن لم يشع جدب بها ويضق رزق

So the Arabian Peninsula’s land became fertile,

Thus the land of the Peninsula became fertile again,

As if no drought had made it barren and stinted its livelihood.

As if drought had never spread within it, nor sustenance grown scarce.

سلام على ليث الجزيرة في الثرى

مسجى بطيب الذكر يندبه الصدق

Peace upon the lion of the Peninsula in the soil,

Peace be upon the Lion of the Peninsula within the earth,

Laid to rest in goodly mention, grieved for in truth.

Shrouded in fragrant memory, mourned by truth itself.

لقد خلف الأشبال تحمي عرينه

ضواري في رعي الذمار لها حذق

He left cubs guarding his lair,

He has left behind lion cubs to protect his den,

Wolves skilled in herding the sheep flock.

Fierce warriors skilled in guarding the sacred trust.

وفي الخلف الميمون سلوى لشعبه

وبشرى بنجم فيه أطلعه الأفق

In the blessed successor, solace for his people,

In the blessed successor lies solace for his people,

And good tidings of a star the horizon brought forth for them.

And good tidings of a star risen upon the horizon.

ألا أيها الحامي الجزيرة إننا

نحييك عن شعب برى جهده الرق

O guardian of the Peninsula! We salute you,

O Protector of the Peninsula, indeed we

From a people tried by hardship but minds ever sharper.

Salute you on behalf of a people worn down by bondage.

عطفت على من جاء منه مهاجرا

فلم تلتفت منه الى أرضه عنق

You were kind to those who came as immigrants,

You showed compassion to those who came as emigrants,

Not turning from them to their land's neck.

So that no neck turned back longing for its homeland.

وعدت على بعثاتنا بمبرة

مضاعفة الجدوى بها رتق الفتق

You returned our missions with benevolence

You bestowed kindness upon our delegations,

Redoubling benefit through which the cleft is joined.

Doubling the benefit by which the rift was mended.

فحمدا على حمد به تلهج اللها

لفضلك تمجيدا كما تسجع الورق

So praise upon praise which tongues recite,

So praise upon praise, eagerly spoken by every tongue,

For your favor, glorification as leaves rustle.

Glorifying your grace just as the turtledoves coo.

وشكرا على شكر لسبقك بالندى

وآل سعود كلهم لهم السبق

And thanks upon thanks for your preceding with dew,

And thanks upon thanks for your precedence in generosity,

And the House of Saud, forerunning, precedent set.

For the House of Saud are all pioneers of virtue.

خلائف أبطال وأعقاب ذادة

زكا الفرع منهم مثلما قد زكا العرق

Successors of heroes and descendants of defenders,

Successors of heroes and descendants of defenders,

The branch from them is as pure as pure lineage.

Their branch is as pure as the root from which it sprang.

وما نحن إلا إخوة رغم بيننا

أشقاء في الإسلام ما بيننا فرق

We are but brothers though between us

We are nothing but brothers, despite the distance,

Siblings in Islam, between us no divide.

Siblings in Islam, with no division between us.

وقد يرتجي للشرق جمع شتاته

كما يرتجى للعبد من رقه عتق

And the East may hope to unite its fragments,

It is hoped that the East will gather its scattered fragments,

As the slave hopes for freedom from his bond.

Just as liberation is hoped for the slave from his bonds.
