فاهنأ بعيدك يا حرم

Today is your feast, no doubt

So congratulate your feast, O sanctuary

So rejoice in your festival, O sanctuary devout.

لباك وفدالمصلحين

وطاف حولك والتزم

Your devotees have come to you

The delegation of reformers has answered your plea,

And circled around you devotedly

Circling around you, bound in loyalty.

ودعا فأمنت السما

ء وفاض ركنك بالنعم

They prayed and you brought security from the sky

They prayed, and the Heavens said "Amen,"

And your corner overflowed with blessings

And your pillars overflowed with grace again.

صفت بساحتك الوجوه

ورددت فيك الحكم

The faces lined up in your courtyard

Faces shone pure within your court,

And repeated wisdom in you

And wisdom echoed in your support.

فرأيت ما يجلو العمى

وسمعت ما يجلو الصمم

So I saw what clears blindness

I saw that which clears the sight of the blind,

And heard what clears deafness

And heard that which cures the deafened mind.

ودخلت ظلك أستجـ

ـير به وأنعم من أمم

And entered your shade seeking refuge

I entered your shadow seeking sanctuary,

And prosperity from nations

Finding refuge there and blessings aplenty.

فعزوت آي الضالحا

ت به إلى رسل الهمم

So I called the signs of guidance through it

I attributed the signs of righteous deed,

To the messengers of resolve

Within it, to messengers of noble creed.

من مظهر يحظي العيو

ن ومخبر يرضي الشيم

From an appearance that pleases the eyes

From an appearance that delights the eye,

And a source that satisfies virtues

To a spirit that satisfies honor high.

وأتيت ميدان اللسا

ن به وميدان القلم

And I came to the field of tongues with it

I entered the arena of the tongue thereby,

And the field of the pen

And the arena where the pens apply.

فخببت في صف الجيال

دعساي ألحق من قدم

So I disappointed in the battle of generations

I raced in the ranks of the generations,

An enemy I inflicted from old

Striving to catch the pioneers of nations.

يا وفد وقيت المكا

ئد والمكاره والإزم

O delegation you avoided hostilities, troubles and crises

O Delegation, may you be guarded from the plot,

Algeria hopes for reconciliation and you are its ruler

From crises and every hateful lot.

ان الجزائر ترتجى

فصلا وأنت لها الحكم

Or you do not see its age

Indeed, Algeria places hope in you,

Like a furnace spewing embers

For a verdict; you are the judge so true.

أو ما تشاهد دهرها

كالفرن يقذف بالحمم

Or you do not see what befalls Algeria of torment

Do you not see the state of her times,

I fear the generations will indict you among them with accusations

Like a furnace casting lava in its crimes?

أو ما تشاهد ما يصـ

ـب على الجزائر من نقم

I fear for your softness that its oppression will say among the unjust

Do you not witness what is pouring down,

I fear for your calmness that you will be called upon in cities and tents

Upon Algeria, of vengeance and frown?

أخشى من الأجيال أن

يصموك فيها بالتهم

O shepherd, while the sheep are under the wolf between a hand and mouth

I fear that the generations ahead,

O delegation you are tying knowledge so break through

Will brand you with accusations due to dread.

أخشى للينك أن يقا

ل ظلمتها فيمن ظلم

O delegation do not sleep nights in your tying, do not sleep

I fear, for your softness, it might be said:

I find knowledge is the scales of values in the world

"You wronged her amidst those who tyranny spread."

أخشى لهونك أن تنا

دى في الحواضر والخيم

And the pillars of glory and greatness for Islam

I fear, for your leniency, you will be called,

The religion of gentleness in surplus and justice in division

In cities and tents, leaving men appalled:

يا راعيا والشاة تحـ

ـت الذئب بين يد وفم

The religion of legislating righteousness and fulfilling promises

"O shepherd, while the sheep is crushed beneath,

The religion of kindness and guidance and virtues and integrity

The wolf, held fast between its paw and teeth."

يا وفد إنك في ربا

ط بالمعارف مقتحم

So protect it from all harm

O Delegation, you stand in a station,

Like mothers protect their infants

Storming through with knowledge for the nation.

يا وفد لا تنم الليا

لي في رباطك لا تنم

And raise it guided

O Delegation, do not sleep through the night,

Like a lighthouse raises knowledge

In your post of defense, do not sleep tight.

أجد المعارف فهي في الـ

ـدنيا موازين القيم

And be sincere for it is the elixir of services

Renew all knowledge, for it remains,

Repel evil intentions openly and stamp them underfoot

In this world, the scale where value reigns.

وأشد على الإسلام أر

كان الفخامة والعظم

And if you are called to integrity do not say why and what for me?

And strengthen for Islam the pillars tall,

Act as the righteous men acted tirelessly

Of grandeur and greatness, standing for all.

دين السماحة في الفرا

ئض والعدالة في القسم

And recognize the great right of your nation among the nations

The religion of tolerance in duties ordained,

Send through it the resolve of souls and turn their summits

And justice in how portions are attained.

دين اشتراع الصالحا

ت ودين إيفاء الذمم

The resolve of souls is the life of your people so weep for those who lost resolve

The religion of legislating the good,

And glory is hoped for by all and the early ones from time immemorial

And keeping the covenants as one should.

دين المرافق والمرا

شد والمكارم والعصم

O pride your mention is in my mouth

The religion of public weal and guidance clear,

And your love etched in my heart

Of noble virtues and protections dear.

فامنعه من كل الأذى

منع الضراعم للأجم

O pride the existence is yours and the breaths sanctified you

So defend it against every harm and raid,

I swear by your pride in life and it is the pride of oaths

As lions defend the thickets of the glade.

وارفعه باسمك هاديا

رفع المنارة للعلم

The best of existence and you are far from the evil of nonexistence

Raise it by your name, a guiding light,

O people prolonged has been our humiliation and the vultures' talons afflicted us

As one raises a beacon in the night.

وعليك بالإخلاص فهـ

ـو هديت إكسير الخدم

And our souls have become fearful even of flies when they buzz

And hold fast to sincerity, for it is—

Fear of people is associating them with their Creator and their arrival an idol

—may you be guided—the elixir of service.

إنبذ قصود السوء ظهـ

ـريا ودسها بالقدم

They hastened to glory and left humiliation to the servants

Cast intentions of malice behind your back,

Do not despair for God, majestic is His majesty, reviver of ruins

And trample them underfoot on your track.

واذا دعوتك للرشا

د فلا تقل لم لي وعم؟

Protector of the guided with His might and rewarder of them, the Abode of Generosity

And if I call you to the path that is right,

O delegation, you attained acceptance and avoided regret in the future

Do not ask "Why me?" or "For what plight?"

اعمل كما عمل الرجال

الصالحون بلا سأم

You continue to rise in Algeria like stars in the darkness

Work as the righteous men have worked before,

And showers of mercy and blessings are upon you

Without weariness, laboring evermore.

واعرف لأمتك الكريـ

ـمة حقها بين الأمم

And you have guidance for with guidance a man began and with it concluded

And recognize for your noble nation's face,

Her rightful standing among the human race.

ابعث بها شمم النفـ

ـوس وول أوجهها القمم

Resurrect in her the pride of the soul,

And turn her gaze toward the highest goal.

شمم النفوس حياة قو

مك فابك من فقد الشمم

Pride of spirit is your people's life-breath;

So weep for the loss of pride as for death.

والعز منشود الأوا

خر والأوائل من قدم

Glory is the quest of those who came last,

And the pioneers in the ages past.

يا عز ذكرك في فمي

وهواك في قلبي ارتسم

O Glory, your mention is on my tongue,

And your love in my heart is etched and hung.

يا عز دان لك الوجو

د وقدستك به النسم

O Glory, existence submits to your sway,

And souls sanctify you in every way.

قسما بفخرك في الحيا

ة وإنه فخر القسم

An oath by your pride in this life so grand,

And truly, it is the pride of the oath to stand.

خير الوجود وأنت عنـ

ـه بمعزل شر العدم

The best of life, if you remain apart,

From it, becomes the worst of non-existence.

يا قوم طال بنا الهوا

ن وساءنا سفع اللمم

O people, humiliation has lingered too long,

And dragging by forelocks has done us wrong.

وغدت تخاف نفوسنا

حتى الذباب اذا ونم

Our souls have come to live in fear,

Even if a buzzing fly draws near.

خوف الورى شرك بخا

لقهم وصولتهم صنم

Fear of creation is a polytheist's shame,

Turning their power into an idol's name.

حثوا إلى العز الخطا

ودعوا المذلة للخدم

Quicken your steps toward glory's prize,

And leave humiliation for servant eyes.

لا تيأسوا فالله جل

جلاله محيي الرمم

Do not despair, for God, the Sublime,

Is the Reviver of bones by the end of time.

حامي الهداة ببأسه

ومثيبهم دار الكرم

Protector of guides with His might and grace,

Rewarding them with a Generous Place.

يا وفد لقيت الرضى

ووقيت في العقبى الندم

O Delegation, may you meet content,

And be saved from regret when days are spent.

لا زلت تشرق في الجزا

ئر كالكواكب في الظلم

May you continue to shine in Algeria's sky,

Like stars in the darkness, soaring high.

وعليك شؤبوب من الر

حمات والبركات عم

Upon you fall a heavy rain of mercy,

And blessings spreading wide and free.

ولك الهدى ما بالهدى

بدأ امرؤ وبه ختم

Guidance is yours, as long as with the light,

A man begins his task and ends it right.
