وقف العلم داعيا ومجيبا

فسمعنا له دويا عجيبا

Knowledge called out inviting and responding

Knowledge stood forth, calling out and responding,

So we heard its amazing rumble

And we heard its voice echoing with wondrous resonance.

هذه حفلة الى العلم آوت

غر أنصاره شبابا وشيبا

This is a celebration of knowledge

This is a gathering that has rallied around Knowledge,

Attended by both its young and old supporters

Its noble champions include both the youth and the elders.

(يا قسنطينة) احمدي سعي حر

ذكره في البلاد يعبق طيبا

O Constantine, praise the free effort

O Constantine, give praise to the endeavor of a free man,

Its fragrance spreads beautifully in the lands

Whose reputation wafts through the lands like a sweet fragrance.

أوتر القوس لاقتناص المعالي

ورمى سهمه فكان مصيبا

He drew the bow to hunt great deeds

He strung his bow to hunt for the highest honors,

And his arrow hit true

And he loosed his arrow, striking the target unerringly.

كم له منة على العلم كبرى

ويد تجعل البعيد قريبا

How much he benefits knowledge greatly

What a great debt of gratitude Knowledge owes to his bounty,

His hand makes the far come near

And to a hand that brings what was distant within reach.

(عمر) البر عامر فيك دارا

أصبحت للعقول مرعى خصيبا

Omar prospered goodness in you, home

O Omar, righteousness has flourished within your abode,

You became for minds lush pasture

Which has become a fertile pasture for intellects to graze.

أثمرت طيب الثمار وآتت

أكلها بيننا شهيا رطيبا

You bore good fruits and gave

It has yielded the finest fruits and brought forth,

Their ripe harvest among us delicious

Its harvest for us, delicious and succulent.

جمعتنا على الهدى جمع تصحيـ

ـح فلم نخش في الهدى مستريبا

You united us on guidance, a healing gathering

It gathered us upon guidance to set things right,

So we did not doubt the guidance

So that we fear no skeptic regarding the true path.

نحن في الدين اخوة والأماني

لا ترى بيننا قصيا غريبا

We are brothers in religion, hopes

We are brothers in faith and shared aspirations;

Do not see strangeness between us

You will see no distant outsider or stranger among us.

أفبعد الرضى وعهد التآخي

يتسنى لعائب أن يعيبا

After contentment and covenant of brotherhood

After such contentment and the pledge of brotherhood,

Can a critic find fault?

Is it possible for any critic to find fault?

هذه فرصة الاخاء تجلت

من سعى للإخاء فيها أثيبا

This is an opportunity for brotherhood manifest

This is the golden opportunity for brotherhood, clearly revealed;

Whoever strives for brotherhood is rewarded

Whoever strives for brotherhood within it shall be rewarded.

فأحيي بها شيوخا عظاما

فسحوا للنهى مجالا رحيبا

So I salute with it great elders

So I salute herein the great scholars,

Who opened wide space for advice

Who have opened a spacious realm for the intellect.

وأحيي بها احتفالا عظيما

باهرا يأسر القلوب رهيبا

And I salute with it a magnificent celebration

And I salute herein a magnificent celebration,

Dazzling, captivating hearts tremendously

Dazzling and awesome, captivating the hearts.

أيها الشعب خذ من المجد حظا

لك واكسب من كل علم نصيبا

O people, take some glory for yourself

O People, seize your share of glory,

And gain a share of every knowledge

And acquire a portion of every field of knowledge.

لا تكن يائسا من الخير واعمل

ان للشمس مطلعا ومغيبا

Do not despair of good, and work

Do not despair of goodness, but strive and work;

The sun has a rising and setting

For truly, the sun has both a rising and a setting.

إن ترد عيشك الهني فكافح

واعزم السير لا تدب دبيبا

If you want pleasant living, then struggle

If you desire a blissful life, then struggle on;

And resolve to walk, do not creep

March forward with resolve, do not merely crawl along.

أو ترد فوزك العظيم فاخلص

كل من كان مخلصا لن يخيبا

Or if you want great success, then devote

Or if you desire your great victory, then be sincere;

Every sincere one will not fail

For whoever is sincere shall never meet with failure.
