O Emir of sword and pen the redeemer
O cherished Prince of the Sword and the Pen,
I remembered you so sadness overcame me
I remembered you, and a profound sorrow overwhelmed me.
I remembered you when you waged a war
I remembered you the day you rose to wage war,
To retaliate against the aggressor and tighten ties
To repel the aggressor, striking with fierce resolve.
I remembered you when you led the army to invade
I remembered you the day you led the army on the march,
And when you made surrender a limit
And the day you made surrender the final limit.
You did not surrender out of weakness but
You did not surrender out of weakness, but rather,
You denied aid so you denied excessiveness
You were denied support, and thus denied victory.
Yet from you, the evil insiders benefited
An entourage of ill intent profited from you,
Their interests but did not believe your affection
Serving their own interests, insincere in their affection.
It has been since you laid down the sword
A century has passed since you laid down the sword,
Six years like eternity passed
Along with six years that dragged on like an eternity.
The people suffered in it
In that time, the people endured what they endured,
Exhaustion so they were weakened and toiled
Of oppression, until they were humbled and worn down.
And they did not lose hope of life
Yet they were never bereft of hope in this world,
Who loses life's hope goes astray
For he who lacks hope in it is surely lost.
But sincere youth stood up
But a generation of sincere youth has risen among them,
To defend Algeria from transgression
Defending Algeria against those who transgress.
It is as if I see Algeria when it awoke
It is as if I see Algeria, the day it awoke,
I see the spirit of jihad in it anew
Seeing the spirit of holy struggle renewed within her.
So rejoice O Ibn Muhyi al-Din rejoice
So rejoice, O son of Muhyiddin, rejoice,
For your people have reached maturity
For your people have reached their peak of strength among nations.
We lost the king in it and it is inevitable
We lost sovereignty there, but it is not impossible,
For a lost kingdom to be restored
For a lost kingdom to be reclaimed once more.
I remembered your Algerians when they stood up
I remembered the sons of Algeria the day they stood,
Against the enemies a dam
As an impenetrable dam in the face of the aggressors.
And when they girded their loins with pride
The day they reaped glory by uniting their ranks,
And when they came with differing views as medicine
And the day they brought calamity through discord.
Can tyrannical rule last for days
Does any rule endure throughout the ages,
When its owner was dictatorial
That is violent, wherein the ruler plays the tyrant?
The ancient law of Nero without
An archaic law, enacted by a 'Nero,' worn and threadbare,
As if spiders spun their webs on it
As if the spider has woven its web over it.
Your brilliant image appeared like a full moon
Your radiant image appeared to us like a full moon,
We drew lights from your ambition
Drawing its light from the sun of your high resolve.
We see it so we gained veneration from it
We gaze upon it and borrow light from its beams,
And did not wrap it with negligence
Finding no choice but to hold it in deep reverence.
