O love, slow down, for my heart
O passion, gently, for my heart
Is perplexed and cannot settle
Is bewildered, finding no rest;
It is exhausted from passion and yearning
It is, from the overwhelming terror of profound love,
Drained, though it does not show
Exhausted, perhaps unable to reveal itself.
Its pulses are faint, tender sighs
Its pulse is a discordant sound,
Stifled within my ringing chest
The resonance choked within the chest.
My heart is all I have
Indeed, my heart—I have no
No other pulse sustains me
Sustaining pulse other than it.
Say why am I being suffocated
Say, why have I been suffocated
When my right is evident
When my right is clearly manifest?
O my tears, come to my aid
O my tears, come to my aid,
My dream has died an infant death
My nascent dream has died.
Have mercy on me, my eyes
And have mercy on me, O my eyes,
Let fall your precious pearls
My tears are precious gold.
Love is cruel and unjust
For passion is cruel and unjust,
A killer or disdainful of me
Lethal to me, or humiliating.
After losing all patience
After I have squandered my patience,
Where can I find that yearning again
Where can I find that yearning?
To whom can I complain of my torment
Say, to whom can I complain of my torment,
Who can I seek help from?
Or whose help might I seek?
