Guiding in the darkness

كل شاكٍ،كل باكٍ

في الهـوى،جودي ومُدّي

Every doubter, every crier

Every complainer, every weeping soul

Of passion, my generosity and extension

In love; so be generous and extend your grace.

أملي أن لا تغاري

ثـم بالإحـسـان ردّي.

I hope you don't become jealous

My hope is that you do not grow jealous,

Then return me with kindness

And then respond with kindness.

تاه عني ورمى بي

حبـه ماعـاد يجـدي

He lost himself and threw me away

He strayed from me and cast me aside;

His love no longer avails

His love is no longer of any use.

أيها العاتب أضنا

ني النوى,فازداد حقدي

O reproacher, we're feeling misery

O you who blames me, it has exhaust-

My intentions increased my hatred

-ed me, this separation, so my bitterness has grown.

جئتُ مولاي فعدني

بلقـاء فـيه قصـدي

I came my Master, so direct me

I have come to my master, so promise me

To a meeting in which is my purpose

A meeting wherein lies my true purpose.

حالـمٌ لو برجاء

هاتِ مـدي اليد مُدّي

A dreamer, if with hope

Dreaming, even if only with a hope;

Give extend your hand extend me

هكذا أهديتُ قلبي

إنني أبـكي وأُهـدي !

Thus I gave my heart

Thus have I gifted my heart,

So my affection after my longing

Indeed, I weep and I give!

فحناني بعد شوقي

ذاك في قربـي وبعدي.

That is in my nearness and my distance

So my tenderness, following my longing,

Don't oppose, I became alone

Is present in my nearness and my distance.

لا تعادي، صرتُ وحدي

هائماً يكفيك صـدي

Wandering, my echo suffices you

Do not act as an enemy, I have become alone,

No tears confused and worries

Wandering blindly; my turning away should be enough for you.

ما لدمعي حائر وشْـ

ـمٌ صريحٌ فوق خدي

Honest above my cheek

Why are my tears bewildered, a clear tat-

Some of my flaw that my eye

-too upon my cheek?

بعض عيبي أن عيني

دمعـها هامٍ لـبعدي

Its tears wandering for my distance

Part of my fault is that my eye,

Do you suffer from disobedience?

Its tears pour down because of my distance.

هل تعاني من عقوق

لا تكن لي شبه نِـدّي

Don't be to me like an enemy

Do you suffer from ingratitude?

Despite that I complain to you

Do not be like a rival to me.

رغم أني منك أشكو

لم أخالف قَطُّ عهـدي

I never broke my pact

Even though I complain of you,

You didn't return me though I

I have never broken my vow.

لم تعـدني رغم أنـي

كنت دوما عند وعـدي

Was always at my promise

You made me no promise, even though I

Be close, be a friend

Was always true to my word.

كن قـريباً،كن صديقاً

لا كبعض الناس ضـدّي

Not like some people against me

Be close, be a friend,

Do you see in the passion a disease?

Not against me, like some people.

هل ترى في العشق داءً

صِفْهُ لي إن كـان يُعدي !

Describe it to me if it's contagious!

Do you see an illness in passion?

And have mercy on the torment of my heart

Describe it to me if it is contagious!

وارحمي بلـوى فؤادي

قبل وضعي ضِمْنَ لحدي

Before placing me amongst my burial

And have mercy on the affliction of my heart,

Don't share some of my confiding

Before I am laid to rest within my grave.

لا تبيحي بعض بَوْحي

لـصديـقي أو لنـدّي

To my friend or my enemy

Do not reveal any of my secrets

And make lawful the entirety of my soul

To my friend or to my rival,

واستبيحي كُنْهَ روحي

إنْ أنـا أغفلتُ حـدّي

If I forgot my limit

But take freely the essence of my soul

Share with me in my yearnings

If I ever neglect my limits.

شاركيني في شجوني

ثم اُدنـي واستـعـدي

Then bring close and prepare

Share with me my sorrows,

And keep my pact and promise

Then draw near and be ready,

واحفظي عهدي ووعدي

لـكِ منـي كـل ودّي.

To you from me, all my affection

And keep my covenant and my promise;

To you, from me, is all my affection.
