Moments of joy for me

A moment of joy, for me,

Are like moments of grief

عشتَ لي في القرب يوماً

فانمـحى كيدُ الأعادي

You lived with me one day

You lived close to me for but a day,

So the enemies' plots faded away

And the malice of enemies was erased.

ابتعـد عن كـل ماقد

يبتـلي هَمّـاً فـؤادي

Stay away from everything

Stay away from all that might

That causes my heart distress

Afflict my heart with sorrow.

خَـلِّ في عيني دموعـاً

اكتـوينـا بالبـعـادِ

Leave tears in my eyes

Leave the tears within my eyes,

We were burned by separation

We have been scorched by separation.

إنَّ دمعي جـدُّ غـالِ

قد تـلاشى بالسُّـهادِ

Indeed, my tears are genuine

Indeed, my tears are truly precious,

They have faded with grief

Yet they vanished with the sleeplessness.

كيف تبغي أنت وأْدي

بعـد شهـر في الودادِ

How can you want, my hand,

How can you desire to bury me alive,

After a month of affection

After a month of tender affection?

أنت يا من صَـدَّ عني

إنَّ شـوقي في ازديـادِ

You, oh one who turned away from me

You, who have turned away from me,

Indeed, my longing is increasing

Truly, my longing only grows.

لا تعـادي قَطُّ مهـما

زاد حُـمْقي أو عـنادي

Never oppose no matter how much

Never act as an enemy, no matter how much

My foolishness or stubbornness increases

My foolishness or stubbornness increases.

ليس ذكـري غيرُ آهٍ

عنك دومـاً في الفـؤادِ

My mention is nothing but a sigh

My memory is nothing but a sigh

About you always in my heart

Of you, always within my heart.

فانتـحرنا نحن سِـرّاً

وبذا نـرضي الأعـادي

So we died secretly

So we destroyed ourselves in secret,

And thereby satisfy the enemies

And thus we satisfied the enemies.

يارفيقي في الأسى كَفْـ

ـكِفْ دموعي لا تعادي

Oh my companion in sorrow, stop

O my companion in sorrow, wi-

My tears, do not oppose

-pe my tears, do not show enmity.

جمرةٌ في القلب تخـبو

لحـظـةً دون الرمـادِ

A coal in the heart hides

An ember in the heart dims

For a moment without ashes

For a moment, without turning to ash.
