ياعصيَّ الدمـعِ أَفْصِحْ
هلْ هواكمْ من نصيبي؟
O you who are immune to tears, speak up!
O stubborn of tears, speak plainly,
Is it me whom you love?
Is your love to be my destiny?
أمْ ترى في غـير حبي
ما يسـاوي من حبيبِ؟
Or do you see in another's love
Or do you see in a love other than mine
What equals my love for you?
an equally worthy beloved?
قد غفا قلـبي، ودمعي
في عيـوني كالّلهيبِ!
My heart slumbers and my tears
My heart has slumbered, while my tears
Blaze in my eyes like flames!
burn in my eyes like flames!
فلْتُشـاركْني همُـومي
من بعيـدٍ أو قـريبِ
So share with me my concerns,
So share these sorrows with me,
Whether from afar or near.
whether from afar or up close.
كلُّ نُصْحٍ، باتَ أَمـْرا
منـكَ رأياً، من لَبيبِ
Every advice from you
Every piece of advice has become a command,
Becomes for me a wise opinion from an intelligent one.
an opinion from you, from a wise mind.
داوني، وارْحَمْ عـذابي
لا تكنْ لي كالغـريبِ
Heal me, have mercy on my torment,
Heal me, and have mercy upon my torment;
Do not be to me like a stranger.

أكتـوي ظلماً وزوراً
كـل يـومٍ في نحـيبِ
I suffer injustice and falsehood
I am seared by injustice and falsehood,
Every day in crying.
wailing in lamentation every single day.
ودَّعـوني إذ نسـوني
بعضُ أهـلي ياحبيـبي
They bid me farewell when they forgot me
They bade me farewell when they forgot me,
Some of my family, O beloved!
some of my own kindred, O my beloved.
عَلّموني كـيف أنسى
صاغـراً، ودّي المـريبِ
They taught me how to forget
They taught me how to forget,
When young, my intimate companion.
in submission, my troubled affection.
غـير بادٍ ما أقـاسي
لَـوْعَةَ الشَّـكِّ الرَّهيبِ
I endure stoically what I suffer
Unseen is the suffering I endure:
The agony of dreadful doubt.
the burning agony of terrible doubt.
لائمي لا،لا تعـاتبْ
لو بَـدا هَـمُّ الكـئيبِ!
Do not blame me, my critic,
O my blamer, no, do not reproach me
If the grief of the sorrowful appears!
if the grief of the melancholic is revealed!
هل لوعدٍ منك أرجو
يحتـوينـي في القـريبِ؟!
Do I hope for a promise from you
May I hope for a promise from you
That will soon contain me?
that will embrace me in the near future?!
