O Lord of great stature, have mercy
O Great in Majesty, have mercy
On a seeker of refuge, fearful of blame
Upon a seeker of refuge who dreads reproach,
For sins which have turned
From sins that have transformed
His life into sorrow and gloom
His life into worry and gloom.
You are not unaware of troubles
No afflictions are hidden from You,
Whose fear has greatly increased
And his fear has grown immense.
Long has he secretly hoped
For so long, in secret, he has hoped
For your forgiveness, then forbearance
For Your pardon, and then Your forbearance.
Despite my fear, my sin
Yet despite my dread, my sin,
Is not a crime in my eyes
In the eyes of my soul, is no transgression.
Though my soul cares not
What ails my soul that it pays no heed,
Despite its hidden defiance
Despite what it forcefully conceals?
How many flaws in stubbornness
How many flaws, in sheer stubbornness,
My soul unjustly allowed
Has the soul unjustly deemed permissible,
Then it complained:
Only to say, while complaining:
Has every sin become a blemish?
"Has every sin become a cause for condemnation?"
Oh my soul, what is my state
Oh my soul, what will be my state
If the Lord one day calls me
If the Lord summons me one day?
Forgive me, my God
Forgive me, O my God,
For my worries have increased.
For my sorrow has multiplied in measure.
