وإني لا أَقوم على قناتي

أَسب الناس كالكَلب العقورِ

I do not stand on my canal

Cursing people like an ungrateful dog

وإِنّي أحلُّ ببطن واد

ولا آوي إِلى البيت القَصير

I settle in the belly of a valley

Not taking shelter in a short house

واني لا أُحاول عقد نار

وَلا أَدعو دُعائي بالصَفيرِ

I do not try to kindle a fire

Nor whistle to make my prayers

ولست بقائل للعبد أوقد

إِذا اوقدت بالعود الصَغيرِ

I do not tell a servant to light

When I light with a small stick
