تَسَابَقْ فِي الْمَكَارِمِ تَعْلُ قَدْرَاً

فَسَبْقُ النَّاسِ لِلْخَيْرَاتِ نَضْلُ

Race in virtues, you will gain esteem

For outpacing people in good deeds is merit

إِذَا ذَهَبَ الْكِرَامُ فَلا رَجَاءٌ

وَإِنْ ذَهَبَ الرَّجَاءُ فَلَيْسَ فَضْلُ

When the generous are gone, there is no hope

And when hope is gone, there is no merit
