1. تَوَازَنَ الصَّيْفُ والشِّتَاءُ

    واعْتَدَلَ الصُّبْحُ والْمَساءُ

    Summer and winter balanced out,

    Morning and evening grew equable,

  2. واصْطَلَحَتْ بَعْدَ طُولِ عَتْبٍ

    بَيْنَهُمَا الأَرْضُ والسَّمَاءُ

    After long estrangement, the earth and sky

    Made their peace.

  3. فَلا اصْطِحارٌ وَلا اكْتِنَانٌ

    وَلا ابْتِرادٌ وَلا اصْطِلاءُ

    No scorching heat nor numbing cold,

    No bareness and no overcast.

  4. تَبْتَهِجُ العَيْنُ في رِياضٍ

    أَنْضَرَها الماءُ وَالْهَواءُ

    The eyes delight in meadows

    Water and air have turned green.

  5. مَنَابِتٌ زَرْعُها بَهِيجٌ

    وَغَيْضَةٌ ماؤُها رَوَاءُ

    Its crops are lush, its water sweet,

    With birdsong in its bowers

  6. لِلطَّيْرِ في أَيْكِها هَدِيلٌ

    وَلِلصَّبا بَيْنَها مُكَاءُ

    And the breath of morn in its air.

    The sun slips out of sight,

  7. تَوَارَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَنْ ذراهَا

    وَشَبَّ مِنْ زَهْرِهَا سَناءُ

    And the dew forms pearls.

    Morning and noon and evening

  8. فَالصُّبْحُ وَالظُّهْرُ وَالْعَشَايَا

    وَالْوَهْنُ مِنْ لَيْلِها سَوَاءُ

    Melt into its gentle night.

    No mist or cloud,

  9. فَلا ضَبَابٌ وَلا غَمَامٌ

    وَلا ظَلاَمٌ وَلا ضِياءُ

    No darkness and no light.

    Rise, and seize youth while we can,

  10. فَقُمْ بِنا نَغْتَنِمْ شَبَاباً

    وَلَذَّةً بَعْدَها فَنَاءُ

    And rapture ere decay.

    Do not brood on wishing—

  11. وَلا تُطِلْ فِكْرَةَ التَّمَنِّي

    فَإِنَّهُ الْحُكْمُ وَالْقَضَاءُ

    Decree and fate have sway.

    All men seek their goal,

  12. يُرِيْدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مُنَاهُ

    وَيَفْعَلُ اللهُ ما يَشاءُ

    And God does as He will.
