What heart remains steadfast 'gainst your coldness,
When loving you has left me wasted and weak?
Naught of my youth remains except
A specter, thinned by sickness into bones,
And tears that longing brought, till they
Outpoured the rain clouds in their flow.
So give to me a glance that can restore
A heart made ill by passion's throes.
My love outlasted, though it was but brief,
Before your coldness melted what remained.
Ask not what I now suffer from
This love, for I've no voice to speak it.
Ask, if you wish, the stars of the night about me,
For they know best all I endure.
A soul that shows no weakness, and a body
Wrecked by sorrow till it lies as rubble.
Have mercy then upon a love-wasted heart,
And tears not ceasing in their flow.
If your way is coldness, then my heart is still
Content with you, though it is left in pain.
So peace be upon you, for I am dying
Of longing, and God is best and Everlasting.
