The life flourished and the streams gushed

And the springs overflowed and the ponds filled

And the bulbuls chirped in their bowers

Goodness has spread over the land

And the face of earth is verdant

And the sky's brow is laden with clouds

Between the two blows a separating wind

With it the dawns and the evenings dew

As if the vegetation is a vast ocean

And the hills are nothing but its coast

And the lofty palms are sailing ships

Inclining now this way, now that way

Swayed by the south winds and the breezes

And the tall and mighty trees

Famous for their long and trailing branches

Winding at their stems and flexuous

Clustered at their heads are the tresses

Among them the ripe dates have stalks and clusters

Red as if they were fingers

As though of gold pieces were the pendants

    With silver chains binding them

Among them are fruits in dense clusters

    You'd imagine them sad, questioning

With flowing tears welling from within

As if a mother bereft of children

For them are anklets of golden bells

Revolving like meteors, fixed are their stations

Some ascending, others falling and others low

And the water amid the meadows is flowing

Sheltered by its banks, the ripplets

As if pregnant she-camels kneeling down to rest

And the birds in its branches warbling

At dawn and eve making them brilliant

So rise to attain your wishes, O oblivious one

For the days of youth are few

Man in this world is a vanishing mirage

And time for man is ever consuming

And all things in time are unreal
