1. قُمْ هَاتِها واللَّيْلُ مَالَ عَمُودُهُ

    لِلْغَرْبِ وانْتَشَرَتْ جُنُودُ الْمَغْرِبِ

    Rise, for night's pillar slants now to the west,

    And the Maghrib's troops have opened ranks.

  2. وَبَدَا الْهِلالُ عَلَى الأَصِيلِ كَأَنَّهُ

    نُونٌ مُفَضَّضَةٌ بِرَقٍّ مُذْهَبِ

    The new moon gleams on the horizon's rim

    Like a Nūn delicately traced in gold.
