1. قف بالديار وقوف زائر

    وتأن إنك غير صاغر

    Stand like a visitor at the abodes,

    And be gentle, for you are not lowly.

  2. ماذا عليك من الوقو

    في بها مد الطللين داثر

    What is upon you from standing

    Among the ruins of the departed?

  3. درجت عليك الغاديا

    ت الرائحات من الأعاصر

    The past has tread upon you -

    The winds have blown fragrances from storms.

  4. يا مَسْلَم بن أبي الوليد

    لميَّتٍ إن شئت ناشر

    O Musallam ibn Abi al-Walid,

    If you wish, spread out a buried corpse.

  5. علقت حبالي من حبا

    لك ذمة الجار المجاور

    I tied my ropes of love for you -

    The neighbor's covenant is binding.

  6. فالآن صرت إلى أمية

    والأمور إلى المصاير

    But now you have turned to Banu Umayya,

    And affairs tend toward destinies.

  7. والآن كنت بهِ المصيب

    كمهتد بالأمس حائر

    And now you were, through them, fortunate,

    As yesterday you were lost and confused.

  8. يا بن العقائل للعقا

    ئل والجحاجحة الأخابر

    O son of principled men, for principles

    And protection are the best informed.

  9. من عبد شمس والأكا

    بر من أمية فالأكابر

    From Abd Shams and the elders

    Of Umayya, then the greatest.

  10. إن الخلافة والألآ

    ف برغم ذي حسد وواغر

    Though the caliphate and banners -

    Despite the envious and ungrateful -

  11. دلفاً من الشرف التليد

    إيك بالرِّفد الموافر

    Are inherited from honored ancestors,

    With plentiful, overflowing supply.

  12. فحللت معتلج البطا

    ح وحلَّ غيرُك بالظواهر

    So you untied a complex knot,

    While others solved only superficialities.

  13. كم قال قائلكم لعا

    لك عند عثرته لعاثر

    How often did your partisans say,

    When they stumbled, to the stumbler:

  14. وغفرتم لذوي الذنو

    ب من الأكابر والأصاغر

    "You have forgiven those with sins,

    Small and great, elders and youth."

  15. ابني أمية إنكم

    أهل الوسائل والأوامر

    My son of Umayya, you are

    The people of means and commands.

  16. ثقتي لكل ملمة

    وعشيرتي دون العشائر

    My trust is to every resourceful man,

    And my people, over all peoples.

  17. الطيبو ترب المغار

    س والمنابت والمكاسر

    Good are you - offspring of the brave -

    And plants and stone quarries.

  18. والساحبون اللاحفو

    ن الأرض هُدَّاب المآزر

    You are the drawers - the pullers -

    Of the earth, demolishers of fortresses.

  19. أنتم معادن للخلا

    فة كابراً من بعد كابر

    You are the mines of the caliphate,

    Great after each predecessor.

  20. بالتسعة المتتابعين

    خلائفاً وبخير عاشر

    With the nine successive caliphs,

    Successors, and the best tenth.
