ولما احلوني بصلعاء صيلم

بإحدى زُبى ذي اللبدتين أبي الشبل

When they brought me to Salma in a howdah

Riding a she-camel with two humps, Abushall's

خرجت خروج القدح قدح ابن مقبل

على الرغم من تلك النوابح والمشلي

I set out like Ibn Muqbil's wine cup

Despite those wailers and criers

علي ثياب الغانيات وتحتها

عزيمة أمر أشبهت سلَّة النصل

Wearing the clothes of singing girls

With a resolve like a sharpened sword
