على حين إن دَنَت لكل قرارة

مذانبُ لا تُجدى على من أسالها

Though dawn drew near each basin filled with rain,

Its showers on all who asked in vain,

مذانب لا تستنبت العود في الثرى

ولا يتحاذى الحائمون فضالها

Downpours that never make woodlands grow,

Nor tempt the thirsty beasts to go.
