1. حيتّك باسمةً ثغورُ الزنبقِ

    مُفَْتَرَّةً عن طيِّبٍ متألَقِ

    Your smile greeted the lips of narcissus

    Parted with a sweet radiance

  2. ضمّتْ براعُمها شِفَاهَ مقبِّلٍ

    وحنتْ عليك حنوَّ صبٍّ شيّقِ

    Its buds pressed the lips of a kisser

    And bent towards you with the bend of pouring wine

  3. وكأَنها في الماء خَوْدٌ شَمَّرتْ

    عن ساقِها عند الورودِ لتستقي

    As if it were a partridge that had tucked up

    Its legs by the flowers to drink

  4. وكأنها استحيتْ فغضَّتْ طرفَها

    وتطأْمنتْ خَفَراً برأْسٍ مطرق

    As if it was shy so it lowered its gaze

    And nodded reassurance with a bowed head

  5. نَهِلتْ أَفاويقَ الندى زهراتُها

    فتفتَّحتْ كالشاربِ المتمطق

    The dewdrops of the valley rained on its flowers

    So they opened like one taking little sips

  6. لم تقوَ صغراها عَلى برْدِ الندى

    أَفما تراها ذاتَ ثغرٍ أَزرق

    Its smallness did not withstand the cold of the dew

    Does it not have a bluish lip that you see?

  7. وترى عناقيدَ البراعمِ تنضوي

    متلازماتٍ في عناقٍ ضيِّق

    And you see the bunches of buds folding

    Embracing closely in a narrow space

  8. من طيِّبِ الأَنفاسِ والأَردانِ ذي

    جفْنٍ عَلَى حلمِ التعانقِ مطبق

    With the scent of breaths and myrtle

    An eyelid closed over the dream of embrace

  9. عذراءُ تستهوي العيونَ بطلْعةٍ

    وضَّاءَةٍ بيضاءَ كالعرْضِ النقي

    A maiden who captures eyes with an emergence

    Dazzlingly white like a pure page

  10. تختالُ من زهوِ الصبا في ميْعةٍ

    ومن الشبابِ وَحسنِه في ريّق

    She sways with the narcissism of youth in a gentle way

    And from youth and its beauty weakly

  11. فكأنها ببياضِها وسنائها

    برزتْ إليك من الضحى في روْنقِ

    So it seems with her whiteness and brightness

    She came out to you from the morning in grace

  12. وتسربلتْ بغلالةٍ وبِرَبْطَةٍ

    من سندسٍ خضرٍ ومن استبرق

    And was clad in a gown and sash

    Of green silk and of fine silk

  13. خفّاقة الإقراطِ زهراء الحلى

    معقودة الإكليلِ فوقَ المفرق

    Fluttering earrings, flower-like jewelry

    Crowned with a wreath above the parting

  14. ما أقبلتْ إلاّ بثغرٍ باسم

    وبمقلةٍ وَسنى ووجهٍ مشرق

    She came only with a smiling mouth

    And a blinking, sleepy face and shining cheek

  15. وكأنها سكرى تمايَلَ عنقُها

    ورنتْ بجفْنٍ بالنعاسِ مرنَّق

    As if she were drunk, her neck swaying

    And she rang with an eyelid sleepy and weak

  16. مرَّ النسيمُ عَلَى الندى بجفونِها

    فترجرجتْ قطراتُه كالزئبق

    The breeze passed over the dew of her eyes

    So its drops rippled like quicksilver

  17. إني ليشجيني الندى متعلقاً

    بجفونها كالمدمعِ المترقرق

    It makes me passionate, the dew, clinging

    To her eyes like weeping, flowing

  18. تُغني بريَّاها وطيبِ شميمِها

    عن بابليٍّ بالدّنانِ معتّق

    She sings with her basil and good scent

    Of Babel set free from fetters

  19. أَنفاسُها تُحيي النفوسَ وريحُها

    روحٌ تشيع بسائفٍ متنشِّق

    Her breaths give life to souls and her air

    Is a spirit waving through slit nostrils

  20. هيفاءُ إِن رفّتْ أَعاليها بَدَتْ

    في الحوْضِ شروى رايةٍ في زورق

    Delicate, if her tops swayed

    In the pond an awning on a boat appeared

  21. ما شئت في زهراتِها من كوكبٍ

    متألق بشعاعِه متمنطق

    Whatever planet you desired in its flowers

    Shining with its rays, folded

  22. كم زهرةٍ رفّتْ فخلت فراشةً

    بيضاءَ رفَّ جناحُها بترفق

    How many flowers swayed leaving butterflies

    White of wing fluttering gently

  23. أَطباقُها مثل الأناملِ شُبّكتْ

    في كل كمٍّ تلتقي في مأْزق

    Its petals are like fingers interwoven

    In every sleeve meeting in a predicament

  24. أو كالجفون طويلةٌ أهدابها

    من ناعسِ ومغمّضٍ ومحدق

    Or like long eyelids, their lashes

    Of a sleepy, closed, staring one

  25. أو لؤلؤ رطب تشظّى حولَه

    صدفٌ أنافَ عَلَى بياضِ المُهْرَقِ

    Or moist pearls round which shards

    Clung to the whiteness of satin

  26. إنَّ الذي خَلَقَ الأزاهرَ خصَّها

    بقضيبها وبناجِها (والبيرق)

    Indeed, He who created the flowers privileged it

    With its rod and its tool and the lightning

  27. الحورُ في جنات عَدْنٍ تجتلى

    والبيضُ تُجلى في خمائلِ (جِلّق)

    The houris in the gardens of Eden are revealed

    And the white is revealed in the posies of Galley
