1. صنعُ الجميلِ وَفعلُ الخيرِ إِنْ أُثِرا

    أبقى وَأَحمد أَعمال الفتى أَثَرا

    Doing good and kindness, if intended

    Are more lasting and praised are the youth's deeds

  2. بَلْ لستُ أَفهم معنى للحياة سوى

    عن الضعيفِ وإنقاذ الذي عثرا

    But I understand the meaning of life only as

    Helping the weak and saving those who stumbled

  3. والناسُ ما لم يواسوا بعضَهمْ فهمُ

    كالسائماتِ وَإِن سمَّيتهمْ بشرا

    And people, unless they comfort each other, are

    Like the displeased, even if called human

  4. إِنْ كان قلبك لم تعطفه عاطفةٌ

    عَلى المساكين فاستبدلْ به حجرا

    If your heart was not softened by affection

    For the poor, then replace it with a stone

  5. هي الإغاثةُ عنوانُ الحياةِ فإِنْ

    فقدتها كنت مَيْتاً بعد ما قبرا

    Giving aid is the title of life, so if

    You lose it, you are dead though buried

  6. ديني الذي عُظِّمَتْ عندي شعائرُهُ

    وَدينُ كلِّ امرئٍ قد رقَّ أو شعرا

    My religion whose rituals I revered

    And every person's religion who was moved or felt

  7. خفضُ الجناحِ لأَبناءِ السبيل إذا

    ما ازداد خدي لذي الكبريا صعرا

    Lowering the wing for the wayfarers when

    My arrogance against the elderly increased

  8. بسْلٌ عَلَى العينِ تكرى بالنعيم إِذا

    ما كان جاريَ من ضرَّائِه سهرا

    A sight is burdensome with blessings when

    My neighbor stayed up nightly due to his troubles

  9. فجنةُ الخلدِ ما أَنفكُّ أَحسبها

    إذا انفردت بها دون الورى سقرا

    I never cease to think that the eternal paradise

    If I alone kept it, would be hell for others

  10. قومي: وَدعوتهمْ قد كانتِ الجَفَلى

    إن كان غيرهمُ يختصُّ بالنَقَرى

    My people: Their supplication was mean

    If others specifically get sustenance

  11. المؤثرون وَلو أَعيت خصاصتهمْ

    والحافظونَ إذا ما غيرهم غدرا

    The charitable even if their qualities tired them

    And the protectors even if others betrayed

  12. "مَنْ ""كابن مامة"" إيثاراً لصاحبه"

    يعالجُ الموتَ في الإِيثار مصطبرا

    "He who is like Mama in preferring his companion"

    Meets death through charity with pride

  13. يقول: وَهو عَلَى وِرد الردى ظَمِىءٌ

    من حيث صاحبه ريّان قد صدرا

    He says: while thirsty and nearing demise

    Whereas his friend is quenched and at ease

  14. لو أَعْوَزَ الماءُ أَصحابي سقيتهم

    دمي وَلست عَلَى العِلاَّت معتذرا

    If my companions lacked water I would give them

    My blood and make no excuses for my illness

  15. إِن فاتك الخيرُ والإِحسان في بطلٍ

    "حيّى البطولةَ والإِحسانَ في ""عمرا"""

    If you missed goodness and benevolence in a hero

    "Revive heroism and benevolence in ""Omar"""

  16. "أَمسى ""الخليفة"" يولى مِن معونتِه"

    مَنْ أنشب الجوعُ في أَطفالِها ظفرا

    The Caliph stayed up to give sustenance

    To those whom hunger pierced their children

  17. وقوفُه عندها بالباب منكسرا

    "أَجلُّ منه بباب ""القدس"" منتصرا"

    His standing at her door bent over

    "Nobler than him at Jerusalem's door victorious"

  18. بنتَ العفافِ وَأُختَ الطهرِ يا بأَبي

    أكاد أَعبدُ فيك الطهرَ والخَفَرا

    O daughter of chastity and sister of purity

    I almost worship purity and dusk in you

  19. "إنَّ الحنانَ ""وَأَسرار الحياة به"""

    فضيلةٌ شَأَتِ الأُنثى بها الذكرا

    "Kindness and the secrets of life are in it"

    A virtue the female surpassed the male

  20. ما راض جامح نفسي للقريض سوى

    معنى الحنانِ وَمعنى البؤس إذْ خطرا

    Nothing appeased my defiant soul except

    The meaning of kindness and meaning of misery when pondered

  21. فالرودُ تحنو عَلَى الأَيتام ماسحةً

    من أَدمعِ اليتمِ ما قدْ حار أَو قطرا

    So the gazelle gently comforts orphans, wiping

    The tears of orphanhood that were confused or dropped

  22. أبهى لدى النفس منها وَهي خاطرةٌ

    تجري مدامعُ من هاموا بها نهرا

    More beautiful to my soul than it, while it worries,

    Are the tears flowing from those who loved her like rivers

  23. فأنتِ ما بين صرعى الفقر أَعظم منْ

    متوَّجٍ حوله القوّادُ والأُمرا

    You are, between my two sides of poverty, greater than

    A crowned king surrounded by flatterers and commanders

  24. ظأْمنتِ لوعةَ أَيتامٍ وَأَرملة

    ما شئتِ بين ضلوعي فاقدحي شررا

    You consoled the agony of orphans and a widow

    However you wished within my ribs so strike the sparks

  25. وَمذْ أَسوتِ جراحَ البائسين لقدْ

    أسقطتُ دعوايَ في قلبٍ بكِ انفطرا

    And since you healed the wounds of the miserable

    I dropped my grievance into a heart that cracked
