لاَ تَغَارِي مِنْ حُسْنِهَا المَلْحُودِ

وَشَبَابٍ فِي شَرْخِهِ مَفْقُودِ

Do not envy her fading beauty,

And youth slipping away.

وَارْحَمِيهَا كَرَحْمَتِي وَاذْكُرِيهَا

بَعْدَ هَذَا المُصَابِ ذِكْرَ وَدُودِ

Have mercy on her as I do, remember her

After this affliction, with affection.

وَاحْذَرِي أَنْ تَبُوحَ عَيْنَاكِ يَوْماً

لِلمُرِيدينَ عَنْ فُؤادٍ حَسُودِ

Beware of revealing your eyes one day

To the envious of a jealous heart.

فَمِنَ الغَبْنِ أَنْ تَشِفَّ الَّلآلِي

وَهْيَ غَرَّاءُ عَنْ نِكَاتٍ سُودِ

It would be unfair for the undeserving

To enjoy her subtle charms.

وَمِنَ النقْصِ فِي جَلاَلَةِ نِدٍّ

أَنْ يَرَى نِدَّهُ بِعَيْنِ حَقُودِ

It is beneath the dignity of a rival

To see his rival with resentful eyes.

وَمُقَالاَةُ غَادَةٍ لِسِوَاهَا

كَاعْتِرَافٍ مِنْهَا لَهَا بِمَزِيدِ

To converse with others is like

Admitting to herself her own excellence.

خَلَّتِ الأَرْضَ كُلَّهَا لَكِ إِرْثاً

فَامْلِكِي مِلْكَ سَيِّدٍ لِمَسُودِ

She left the whole world an inheritance for you

Rule the kingdom of an illustrious lord.

وَارْفَعِي فِي الأَحْزَابِ رَايَةَ جَمْعٍ

بَيْنَ حُسْنٍ بَاقٍ وَنَجْمٍ سَعِيدِ

Raise among the factions the banner

That unites lasting beauty and a blessed star

فَلَقَدْ شَتَّت المُحِبِّينَ عَنْهَا

مَا انْطَوَى مِنْ لِوَائِهَا المَنْكُودِ

For the factions have certainly scattered

Those who loved her banner now furled.

أَصْبَحَتْ فِي يَدِ البِلَى فَدَعِيهَا

بِسَلاَمٍ وَاسْتَمْتِعِي بِالوُجُودِ

Consigned to decay, bid her farewell in peace

And delight in existence as long as you can

لَكِ مَلْهَى مِنَ الصِّبَا وَالتَّصَابِي

فَاغْنَمِيهِ إِلى مَدىً مَحْدُودِ

You have the pleasures of youth and frivolity

So enjoy them for a limited time.
