لِعَلِيٍّ قَرَارَةٌ بِالعَرَاءِ
هِيَ فِي الأَرْضِ قَطُعَةٌ مِنْ سَمَاءِ
'Ali has a house amidst the desert,
a piece of heaven planted on the ground.
بَاتَ فِيها وَقَدْ تَوَجَّه للهِ
حَنِيفاً بِوَجْهِهِ الوَضَّاءِ
He spent the night facing towards Allah,
his brilliant face inclined in devotion.
وَافِرَ الأُنْسِ حَيْثُ قَرَّ وَحِيداً
بِاخْتِلاَفِ الملائِكِ الأُمَنَاءِ
Blessed with abundant intimacy as he settled alone
among visiting angels who guarded him.
جَسَدٌ عِنْدَ مُنْتَهَى ظُلَمِ الدّهْرِ
وَرُوحٌ في مُزْدَهَي الأَضْوَاءِ
A body lies at the edge of darkest ignorance
while his soul dwells in the brightest lights.
يَا أبَا صِيرَ مِنْ قُرَى غَرْبِ مِصْرٍ
بِتِّ سِرّاً للهِ في الوُدَعَاءِ
O Father of the Secret, from the villages of western Egypt
dwell humbly for Allah among sincere devotees -
بَيْنَ مَا فِيكِ مِنْ زَرِيِّ المَغَانِي
شِيدَ بَيْتٌ سَمَا إلى الُجَوْزاءِ
amidst what luxury the singing-girls possess
a building was made aspiring to high heavens.
بِعَليٍّ غَدَوْتِ دارَ المَعَالي
وَمَزَارَ العُفَاةِ والأُمَرَاءِ
Through 'Ali you became the home of glory
and the shrine of saints and princes.
بِالنَّبيهِ النَّزِيهِ عَنْ كلِّ كِبْرٍ
بِتِّ أَحْرَى البِلاَدِ بِالكِبْرِيَاءِ
Through the virtuous prophet above all pride -
of all the lands, you are most deserving of greatness.
كَرَّمَ اللهُ في الحَيَاةِ عَلِيّاً
وَبِهِ قدْ كَرُمْتِ في الأَرْجَاءِ
Allah honored 'Ali in life
and through him you gained dignity.
بِالسَّرِيِّ المُبَجَّل المنزلاوِ
يِّ سَرِيِّ الأَجْدَادِ وَالآباءِ
Through the noble father of fathers,
custodian of all genealogies.
بِالتَّقيِّ النَّقيِّ مِنْ كُلِّ عَيْبٍ
كعْبَةِ الفَضْلِ قُدْوِةِ الأَتقياءِ
Through the Godwary free of defects,
a model of avoidance for the pious.
بِالَّذِي لَمْ يَجِئْهُ وَحْيٌ وَلَكِنْ
لَمْ تَفُتْهُ خَلائقُ الأَنبياءِ
He whom no revelation came but
the qualities of prophets did not elude him.
كَرَمٌ جَاوزَ الأَمَانيَّ حَتَّى
قَصُرَتْ عَنْهُ سَابِقَاتُ الرَّجَاءِ
A generosity that exceeded all hopes
before which all seekers fell short.
وَحَيَاءٌ عَلى الشَّجاعَةِ نَاهِيكَ
بِخُلْقَيْ شَجَاعَةٍ وَحَياءِ
A shyness over courage - not to mention
the qualities of courage and shyness.
كَانَ فِي قَوْمِهِ صَلاَحاً وَإِصْلاَحاً
فَعَاشُوا في عِفَّة وَرَخَاءِ
He brought peace and reform among his people,
who lived in chastity and prosperity.
صَانَ أَعَرَاضَهُمْ وَصَانَ حِمَاهُمْ
مِنَ فَسَادٍ وَضَلَّةٍ وَشَقَاءِ
He protected their honor and protected their sanctuary
from corruption, misguidance, and misery.
عَاشَ فِيهم كَأَنَّما هُو مِنْهُمْ
وَهْوَ لُوْ شَاءَ عُدَّ فِي الأُوْلِيَاءِ
He lived among them as though he were one of them
while, had he wished, he'd be counted among saints.
أرَصَدَ العُمْرَ لِلْهُدَى وَتَوَلَّى
كَاغْتِمَادِ الشِّهَابِ فِي الظَّلْماءِ
He pursued a life of guidance and assumed
the role of a guiding star in the darkness.
مُخْلِفاً نَجْلَهُ الكَرِيمَ عَلِيّاً
لِلْمُرُوءَاتِ والنَّدَى وَالوَفَاءِ
Leaving as heir his noble son 'Ali
to kindness, glory, and loyalty.
يَا أَبَا المَجْدِ لَيْسَ مِثْلُكَ مَيْتاً
وَعَليٌّ فَتَاهُ فِي الأَحْيَاءِ
O Father of Glory, none like you dies
with 'Ali your heir-apparent among the living.
فَتَمَلَّ النِعُمَاءَ خَالِدَةً فِي
جَنَّة صُبْحُهَا بِغَيْرِ مَسَاءِ
Thus eternal bounties live
in a Paradise with no evening.'
