حَبَّذَا الشِّعْرِ خَاطِرٌ يبْعَثُ النُّورَ

وَلَفْظٌ دَانٍ بعِيدُ المَرَامِي

A spirit that evokes light has blessed poetry,

And eloquence with far-reaching goals.

كل بَيْتٍ كَمَنْبِتِ الزَّهْرِ حُسْناً

وَشَذاً أَوْ كَمرْقِعِ الآرَامِ

Each verse is as beautiful as a flower bed,

As fragrant as the meadows of Aram.

أَبْهَجَتْنَا آَيَاتُهُ فِي كِتَابٍ

لِنَدَى الصِّبَا سَنِيَّ المَرَامِ

Its verses delighted us in a book

For the youth of enduring ambitions.

مُذْ رَمَى سَهْمَهُ فَجَاءَ المُعَلَّى

مَا شَكَكْنَا فِي أَنَّهُ سَهْمُ رَامِ

Since it shot its arrow and hit the mark,

We never doubted that it was a sure arrow.
