O you who wept when fate was cruelly harsh

What can the weeping one do but resign?

The bloom of youth came to life submitting

Its farewells at the station of resignation

Henry passed away in the prime of life

To grieve him overly is not kind

None greener than he, of purer soul

Than any baseness, any blemish mean

None nobler, of more abundant justice

Of finer manners and profounder lore

Greatest in the torment of his people, his land

For he gave hope to every great one

What words, though exalted by inspiration

Can soothe the wounds of your suffering heart?

But such is the Wise One's destined decree

No reasonable soul doubts its hidden wisdom

So steel your heart for those left behind

For they are frail, while you are generous

The rights of children are binding on you

Shelter of the estranged, refuge of the deprived

Why should I console Yusuf in his trial

When he welcomes adversity, undaunted by the worst?

The days have not concealed from him their course

Nor has his age-old knowledge led him astray

Who faces each tribulation as he has

    With patience, with wise acquiescence

It is enough support that she who bore his sons

Shares now his calamity, his truest partner

Her faith bears adversity beyond compare

How could a gentle constitution weather such storms?

Reason ruled by clearness is reason sound

While feeling ruled by kindness is feeling humane

O you both who obeyed His will contentedly

Whether sooner or later it came to pass

For he who lives on in your hearts and ideals

Moves from breast to breast, resident forever

He is gone, with no worldly speck to veil

The manifestation of his timeless Lord

Where are those left? And where his place

    Of eternal triumph and bliss?
