أَهْدَى إليَّ صَديقي طَاهرٌ
مِنْ أَنْفَسِ المَصْنُوعِ فِي السُّودَانِ

The finest work from Sudan
قَدْ قُمِّعَتْ بِالعَاجِ أمَّا عُودُهَا
فَأُصُولُهُ مِنْ أَقٌدَمِ الأَزْمانِ
Adorned with ivory, its wood
From the oldest stock began
جَمٌّ مَنَافِعُهَا وَأَعْجَبُ مَا بِهَا
سِحْرٌ مِنَ الإبْدَاعِ وَالإتْقَانِ
Great its uses, but greater still
The wizardry of its skill
مِنْ الآسِ إنِّي وقد زَانَتْ يَدِي
فَإنِّي بِإيفاءِ الجَمِيلِ مُدَانِ
For such a gift, now in my palm
I'm in debt to reward in kind
