أُعَانِي مِنَ الدَّاءِ آلامَهُ
وَلسْتُ بِشاكٍ وَلاَ شاكِرِ
I suffer the malady’s agonies;
Yet I neither complain nor give thanks.
وَمَا بِيَ ظاهِرَةٌ لِلأَسى
سِوَى مَا ترَى الْعَيْنُ مِنْ سَاخِرِ
No outward sign of sorrow shows in me,
Save what the eye sees in one who scoffs.
