1. مَضَى عَهْدُ الصِّبَا فَغَدَوْتَ زَوْجاً

    وَإِنْ تَكُ بِالحِجَى وَالفَضْلِ فَرْدَا

    The days of youth have passed, and you have become a husband,

    though in wisdom and virtue you remain peerless.

  2. وَبِتَ أَباً وَمَا خِلْنَاكَ تَرْضَى

    بِغَيرِ وَلاَئِدِ الأَفْكَارِ وُلْدَا

    And you have become a father—we never imagined you would be content

    to have as children any but the offspring of ideas.

  3. وَقِيلَ اليَومَ إِنكَ صِرْتَ جِداً

    أَحَقاً إِن حَنا صَارَ جِدا
