    O virtuous and valiant man—rejoice,

having attained, through advancement, the loftiest station.

All who know you agree that you are a man of worth,

    worthy of this exalted honor.

Many a sword has made the pledge of protection shine forth of old,

flashing at the vanguard of the banners.

And you have girded it on, as virtue would have one do—

not for a war to be kindled, but for peace.
