They saw in him the highest ideal, in the farthest extent

To which heroes and minds aspire

He endures exile and torture, yet his resolve

Is beyond what his fierce enemies can grasp

They snatched from the mother her son unjustly

She unleashed her pain at what time has brought him

As if she had sent forth her young cubs

The easiest sacrifice was the most precious ransom

And the simplest demand was that his blood be shed

Until her crown of glory is returned to her

And the dam is lifted from her neck that straightens
