جُزِيتَ عَنَّا الْخَيْرَ يَا مَجْمَعاً

رِجَالُهُ عليَةُ أَهْلِ الأَدَبْ

You have done good for us, oh council,

Its men are the elite of literature,

رَئِيسُهُ مَنْ هُوَ فَاذْكُرْ لُهُ

مَا شِئْتَهُ مِنَ نَسَبٍ أَوْ حَسَبْ

Its president - mention his

Lineage or status as you wish.

وَصَحْبُهُ فِي نُخَبِ الشْرَقِ مِنْ

أَهْلِ الحِجِى وَالْعِلْمِ أَصْفَى النُّخَبْ

And his company of the choicest

Of the East in knowledge and wisdom.

قَدْ هَلَّ مِنْ عَزْمِكَ مَا يَرْتَجَى

وَلاَحَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ مَا يُرْتَقَبْ

Your resolve has brought what was hoped,

And your excellence what was expected.

حَدِّدْ لَكَ الخَيْرَ وَلاَ تَتَّئدْ

فَإِنَّما تَبْعَثُ مَجْدَ العَرَبْ

Specify for yourself the good, and do not hesitate,

For you bring glory to the Arabs.

حَاضِرَةُ الإِسْلاَمِ فِي حُقْبَةٍ

تَجْدُرَ أَنْ تُدْعَى بِكُبْرَى الْحُقُبْ

Capital of Islam in an era,

That deserves to be called the greatest eras,

وَالَتْ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا الفُتُوحُ الَّتِي

تَعَاقَبَتْ وَاتَّصلَتْ كَالسَّببْ

It conquered the world with openings that

Succeeded each other and were linked like a chain.

فِي كُلِّ مَعْنىً مِنْ مَعَانِي الْعُلَى

مَشَى بِهَا اليُمْنُ وَلاَءَ الحَرَبْ

In every meaning of supreme meanings,

Through it, the right hand of Yemen marched to war.

أَنْ تَسْتعِيدَ مِنْ عِزِّهَا مَا مَضى

وَهْيَ لَهُ أَهْلٌ فَهَلْ مِنْ عَجَبْ

To regain its former glory,

It is capable, so is it any wonder?

صَحِبْتُ مِنْ مِصْرَ أَخِي حَافِظاً

وَحَافِظُ أَنْبِلُ مَنْ يُصْطَحَبْ

I accompanied my brother from Egypt,

As a protector, and protector of the noblest companion,

حَتَّى حَجَجْنَاهَا فَيَا لُطْفُ مَا

فِيَها لَقَيْنَا مِنْ جَزَاءِ الْنُّصَبْ

Until we performed the pilgrimage there, so gentle was

What we encountered there of reward for exertion,

جَنَّة عَدْنٍ طَالَعَتْنَا بِمَا

سُرَّ وَسَرَّى وَشَفَى مَنْ وَصَبْ

A garden of Eden appeared to us with

Pleasure, cheer, and healing for the troubled.

فالطَائِرُ الْغِرِّيدُ فِي رَوْضِهَا

أَسْكَتهُ حَيْنَا تَنَاهِي الطَّرَبْ

The singing bird in its meadows,

We silenced for a time, so extreme was the rapture.

إِنْ تَسْتَزِيدُوهُ فَفِي قَابِلٍ

يَسْمَعُ مِنْهُ كُلُّكُمْ مَا أَحَبْ

If you want more, then at another time,

Each of you will hear from it what you love.

يَا سَادَةٌ صَعَّدَ بِي فَضْلُهُمْ

إِلى ذُرَاهُمْ وَمَكَانِي صَبَبْ

O masters, their excellence elevated me,

To their peak and my place poured forth.

شَرَّفْتُمُونِي بِانْتِسَابِي إلى

مَجْمَعِكُمْ يَا حَبَّذَا المُنْتَسَبْ

You have honored me by my affiliation

To your academy, O finest affiliation!

وَفَّقنِي اللهُ إلى خِدْمَةٍ

أَقْضِي بِهَا مِنْ حَقَّه مَا وَجَبْ

May God enable me to serve,

Fulfilling the rightful duty.

قَلَّدْتُمُونِي بَيْنَكُمْ رُتْبُةً

في نَظَرِي تَسْمُو جَمِيعَ الرُّتَبْ

You have appointed me among you to a position,

Which in my eyes, surpasses all positions.
