    لبست حسنا فجاءت صورا

    Those dreams of bliss in her gentleness

    Donned beauty and came as images

  3. من غذاء النور من سقي الندى

    من حنو الليل من ضم الثرى

    From the nourishment of light, from the irrigation of dew

    From the tenderness of night, from the embrace of soil

  4. من هزيز الريح في تسيارها

    من مناغاة الدراري في السرى

    From the murmuring of the wind in its stirring

    From the whispering of the leaves in the bedchamber

  5. خرد الروض ملاح زانها

    خفر الطهر وزن الخفرا

    The garden smiled at her adornment

    The chastity guarded and the vigilance kept watch

  6. ليس يدري من يرى أشكالها

    ويرى ألوانها والحبرا

    None who sees her forms

    And sees her colors and scribbles

  7. أيرى في البعض منها شفقا

    أم يرى في البعض منها سحرا

    Can see in some of it a sunset

    Or see in some of it sorcery

  8. أم يرى الكم سرورا نابتا

    أم يرى النوار نورا عطرا

    Or see the buds blossoming

    Or see the lights, a fragrant light

  9. إنما الزهرة خلق عجب

    فطرة سمحاء تسمو الفطرا

    The flower is truly a wondrous creation

    An open nature rising above creation

  10. خلقت للخير خلقا صافيا

    جاوز الضيم وفاق الغيرا

    Created for good, created pure

    Rising above harm and surpassing rivalry

  11. شأنها تضحية النفس ولا

    شيء غير النفع تبغي وطرا

    Her way is self-sacrifice, and she wants

    Nothing but benefit, seeking no reward

  12. شيمة فادية شرفها

    شارب الموت فداء للورى

    A redeeming trait, her honor

    Is to die in defense of humanity

  13. فلغير الحب ذابت ذهبا

    حين تأسى أو تذكت مجمرا

    For she melted into gold for none but love

    When she grieved or burned with passion

  14. ولغير الفخر حلاها الندى

    ولغير الذكر فاحت عنبرا

    And the dew adorned her for none but pride

    And she exuded ambergris for none but fame

  15. وسمت أن تتباهى وأبت

    أن يطيل الناس عنها السيرا

    She was determined not to boast

    And refused to let people travel far to her

  16. من دعاها عادلا أو ظالما

    للمروءات دعا مبتدرا

    Whoever called her, just or unjust

    Called for chivalry, rushing ahead

  17. فلمن جاور أهدت نفحة

    ولمن طالع أسدت منظرا

    For whoever dwelled near, she offered a scent

    And for whoever looked upon her, a view

  18. وأباحت جيدها من يبتغي

    سلوة أو زينة أو مظهرا

    And she allowed freely those who sought

    Consolation, beauty or an appearance

  19. هي أنس المرء في وحشته

    وهي الصفو له إن كدرا

    She is the joy of one in his loneliness

    And his comfort if he is troubled

  20. وهي القبلة في مرشف من

    شاقه لثم حبيب هجرا

    She is the beloved kissed in anguish

    By one whose love abandoned and deserted

  21. وهي النفحة يستشفي بها

    من تلظى وجده مستعرا

    She is the breath that one inhales for healing

    When his bosom burns inflamed

  22. وهي التحفة في العرس لمن

    آثر المهر الأحب الأطهرا

    She is the gift at the wedding for one

    Who chose the most beloved, the purest dowry

  23. قالت الوردة ذات النهي

    والأمر في الزهر

    Said the rosy blossom in her bashfulness

    And refinement in the flower:

  24. يا وصيفاتي بنات النور

    والقطر في الفجر

    "Oh my companions, daughters of light

    And rain in the dawn

  25. أختنا شمس البنات الخرد

    الزهر في العصر

    Our sister, sun of the daughters, the tiny

    Flower in the afternoon

  26. من غد تبرح خدر الكاعب

    البكر في طهر

    Tomorrow she leaves the nest of the warbler

    The virgin in her purity

  27. وتوافي دار بعل صادق

    حر في فخر

    And comes to the home of her true husband

    Free in his pride

  28. أنا أهواها وتهواني

    في الجهر والسر

    I love her and she loves me

    Openly and in secret

  29. أسعفيني يا أخيات الهوى

    العذري في أمري

    Help me, sisters of passion

    Innocent in my matter

  30. ننتظم في شبه تاج باهر

    يزري بالدر

    Let us gather into a shape like a radiant crown

    Adorned with pearls

  31. ونكن أبهى هدايا الود

    والذكر في المهر

    And be the most splendid gifts of affection

    And fame in the dowry

  32. للمفداة عروس الحسن

    والشعر في مصر

    For the one ransomed, bride of beauty

    And poetry in Egypt"

  33. سرت الأزهار لما سمعت

    ذلك النطق الذكي الاذفرا

    The flowers stirred when they heard

    That wise and eloquent speech

  34. واستقرت ليلها هاجعة

    فرأت حلما جميلا في الكرى

    And spent the night wakeful

    And saw a beautiful dream in their beds

  35. أبصرت عرسا بهيجا حافلا

    جامعا من كل جيل معشرا

    They saw a joyous, bustling wedding

    With a gathering from every generation

  36. عقد العطر سحابا ناصعا

    فاشيا بينهم منتشرا

    Fragrance wove a shining cloud

    Spreading out between them

  37. تلمع الأنوار في أثنائه

    وتباهي الوجنات الغررا

    Lights sparkled among them

    And cheeks blushed red

  38. ولحاظ القوم فيه تلتقي

    مرسلات أسهما أو شررا

    The people's glances met therein

    Shooting arrows or sparks

  39. فتية مرد وشيب تركت

    كرة الدهر عليهم أثرا

    Young men unbroken, and old men whom

    The sphere of time had marked

  40. وحسان مسن أغصانا ولم

    تكد الأوراق تخفي الثمرا

    And beautiful gray-haired boughs that

    Could barely hide the fruit

  41. في جلابيب سرور وعلى

    كل وجه نجم سعد سفرا

    In robes of joy, and on

    Each face a star of good fortune shone

  42. تنجلي فيهم عروس ملك

    نحجب العفة عنها النظرا

    A queen of modesty appeared, veiling

    Herself from sights

  43. بين أتراب حواليها كما

    صحبت غر النجوم القمرا

    Among her companions around her as

    The full moon among the stars

  44. مجمع يحفل مهتزا لها

    فرحا في عيدها مستبشرا

    A gathering throbbed with joy for her

    Happy on her feast day, hopeful

  45. ظلت الرؤيا إلى أن لمست

    راحة الفجر الدجى فانحسرا

    The dream remained until

    The touching of the gloomy dawn dispelled it

  46. وجلت عن يوم صفو شائق

    ذلك الستر المشوب الأغبرا

    And it lifted from a day of serene delight

    That interwoven veil of dust

  47. فتغنى الطير تبشيرا به

    وكسى الأفق الرداء الأزهرا

    The birds sang heralding it

    And the horizon donned its greenest gown

  48. وبنات الروض وافين إلى

    محضر العرس فزن المحضرا

    And the garden's daughters came

    To the wedding area and adorned the place of celebration

  49. جئن قربانا وكل وهبت

    ربة الدار صباها الأنضرا

    They came with offerings and each one gave

    The lady of the house her brightest youth

  50. ودعت كل بسعد دائم

    للعروسين دعاء مضمرا

    And each wished the lasting joy

    For the bridal couple in a secret prayer

  51. قالت الوردة يا شاعرنا

    إننا اخترناك دون الشعرا

    The rose said: "Oh our poet

    We have chosen you above all poets

  52. أتل عنا ما أذعناه شذا

    وابتساما فتلا مؤتمرا

    Recite to us what we have whispered delicately

    Smilingly and confidentially"

  53. باسم المليكة في الأزاهر

    ذات الجلالة والبهاء

    In the name of the queen of flowers

    Of majesty and splendor

  54. يهدي إليك بيان شاعر

    أذكى التهانيء والدعاء

    A poet presents the clearest congratulations

    And the most sincere wishes
