دَعَوْتُمُونِي وَبِي مَا بِي مِنَ الْوَصَبِ
وَهلْ دَعَا وَاجِبٌ قَبْلاً وَلَمْ أَجِبِ
You called me, though there was nothing wrong with me
Does a duty ever call without me responding?
فَإِنْ أَقْصُرْ وَأَرْجُ الْيَوْمَ مَعْذَرَةً
فَالْوِدُّ يَحْفُزُنِي والجِهْدُ يَقْعُدُ بِي
If I fall short today and make excuses
Affection drives me, though fatigue holds me back
يَا عُصْبَةَ الْخَيْرِ مَا زِلْتُمْ كَعَهْدِكُمُ
تَقْضُونَ حَقَّ أَولى الإِحْسَانِ عَنْ كَثَبِ
O band of goodness - you remain as you were
Fulfilling the rights of the most benevolent
اليومَ يُكَرَّمُ حُرٌّ شَدَّ إزْرَكُمُ
بِمَا ابْتَغَيْتُمْ لِنِفْعِ الْنَّاسِ مِنْ أَرَبِ
Today an honorable and steadfast man is honored
For what you have sought for people's benefit
إِنَّ الضِّعافَ أَمَانَاتٌ يُوَكِّلنَا
بِهَا القَضَاءُ ومَنْ يَرْأَفُ بِهِمْ يَثِبِ
The weak are trusts assigned to us
By fate, and he who cares for them will prosper
نَجِيْبُ أَدْرَكْتَ أَوْجاً لَيْسَ يُدْرِكُهُ
غَيْرُ الْفُحُول مِنَ الصُيَّابَةِ النُجُبِ
We answer - you have reached a peak none can reach
But the gallant ones, the fine young knights
أَلَمْ تَكُنْ فِي ثِقَاتِ الطُّب مَفْخَرَةً
لِمِصْرَ بَيْنَ ثِقَاتِ الْعَجْمِ وَالعَرَبِ
Were you not among Egypt’s finest doctors
Among the elites of non-Arabs and Arabs alike?
لاَ بِدْعَ أَنْ تَرْفَعَ الأَوْطَانُ قَدْرَ فَتىً
أَفْعَالُهُ بِالنَّدَى مَوْصُولَةُ السَّببِ
A homeland must extol a man whose deeds
Are linked to growth, though causes are obscure
يَزْهُو النَّبوغُ بِمَا حَقَّقْتَ مِنْ أَمَلٍ
قَبْلَ الأَوَانِ وَمَا آثِلْتَ مِنْ حَسَبِ
Genius shines through your fulfilled hopes
And lineage - before the time and ripe
وَمَا تَبَوَّأْتَ مِنْ عَلْيَاءَ مَنْزِلَةٍ
زَادَتْ سَنَى الشَّرَفِ الوَضَّاحِ وَالنَّسبِ
You have attained lofty heights of status
Increasing the renown of noble birth
هَذِي الْفَضَائِلُ مَهْمَا تَخْفِهَا دِعَةً
يَشِفُّ عَنْهَا حِجَابُ اللُّطْفِ وَالأَدَبِ
However much refinement hides these virtues
The veil of grace and propriety reveals them
تَكَامَلَتْ بِخَلاَلٍ مِنْكَ طَارِفَةً
إِلَى شَمَائِلَ عَنْ جَدٍّ سَمَا وَأبِ
With refined traits you have complemented
Lineage, from ancestors noble and pure
فَاهْنَأْ بِإِنْعَامِ فَارُوقَ الْعَظِيمِ وَمَا
أَحْرَاكَ بِالمَنْصِبِ العَالِي وَبِاللَّقَبِ
Congratulations for the gift of the great Farouk
And the exalted office and title he granted you
وَأهْنَأْ بِتَكْرُمَةٍ مِنْ رَأْسِ دولتهِ
وَمِنْ صَحَابَتهِ الأَشْهَادِ وَالغِيَبِ
Congratulations for the honor from the head of state
And his advisors present and absent
وَمِنْ شُيوخٍ وَنُوَّابٍ نِظَامُهُمْ
حَوْلَ الْمَلِيكِ نِظَامُ الشَّمْسِ وَالشُّهُبِ
Congratulations from elders and ministers - their order
Around the king is that of sun and stars
وَاهْنَأْ بِطِيبِ تَحِيَّاتِ الأُوْلى وَفَدُوا
إِلَيْكَ مِنْ سَرَوَاتِ الأُمَّة النُّخبِ
Congratulations for the finest greetings of notables
Who came to you, the elite of the ummah
تَمَثَّلتْ مِصْرُ فِيهِمْ وَهْيَ مُوحِيَةٌ
مَا يُطْرِبُ الْحَفْلَ مِنْ شِعْرٍ وَمِنْ خُطَبِ
Egypt embodied in them, evoking
What delights a banquet - prose and verse
نِعْمَ الْجَزَاءُ لِمَنْ وَفَّوا بِلاَدَهُمُ
حُقُوقَهَا بِالحِجَى وَالصِّدْقِ وَالدَّأَبِ
How excellent the reward for those who did their homeland right
With zeal, honesty, and diligence
دَامَتْ مَرَاقِيكَ فِي يُمْنٍ تُهَيِّئهُ
لَكَ السُّعودُ وَفِي أَمْنٍ مِنَ النُّوَبِ
Long may your heights remain blessed
Secured for you by prosperity, safe from harm
