يَا لِسَانَ الدِّفَاعِ عَنْ خَيْرِ دَارٍ

تُفْتَدَى بِالنُّفُوسِ وَالأَمْوَالِ

O tongue defending the best of homes

Redeemed with souls and wealth

حبُذَا رَوحُ مُصْطَفَى وَهْوَ مُوفٍ

يَتَجَلَّى مِنَ المَكَانِ العَالِي

Blessed is the spirit of Mustafa while he is faithful

Manifesting from the Highest Place

مُوحِياً مَا يُرَى لِعِزَّةِ مِصْرَ

مِنْ صَلاَحٍ فِي حَالِهَا وَالمَآلِ

Inspiring what is seen for the glory of Egypt

Of righteousness in its state and outcome

فَكَانَّ العَهِيدَ صَارَ عَتِيداً

يَتَمَاشَى عَهْدَاهُمَا فِي اتِّصَالِ

So the heir became ready

As their two covenants align

لَيْسَ بِدْعاً وَالحَقُّ مَا أَنْتَ تَرْجُو

أَنْ يُرَى الصِّدْقُ عَاصِماً لِلْمَقَالِ

It is no innovation, and truth is what you hope

To see sincerity a protector of speech

يَصْدُرُ القَارِئُونَ عَنْ وَرْدِهِ الصَّافِي

وَفِيهِمُ خَلاَئِقُ الأَبْطَالِ

Readers issue forth from its pure stream

Among them the temperaments of heroes

وَتَرَاءَى فِيهِ بِمِرْآةِ صِدْقٍ

مِصْرُ ذَاتَ الإِكْرَامِ وَالإِجّلاَلِ

And Egypt of veneration and esteem is mirrored in it

Through the mirror of truth

وَتَجِيءُ الألْفَاظُ وَفْقَ المَعَانِي

فِي نِظَامٍ يُزْرِي نِظَامَ اللآَّلِي

And words come according to meanings

In an order more elegant than necklaces

وَيَرَى النِشْءُ فِي مَنَاهِجِهِ البَيْضَاءَ

سُبُلَ العُلَى وَالاسْتِقْلاَلِ

And the youth see in its white curricula

The paths of sublimity and independence

وَيَصِيبُ الرِّجَالُ أَسْمَى مَجَالٍ

تَتَجَارَى فِيهِ عُقُولُ الرِّجَالِ

And men attain the highest sphere

In which men’s minds compete
