فِي مَعَالِيكَ قَامَ عُذْرُ القوَافِي

دُونَ مَا تَقْتَضِي مِنَ الأَوصافِ

In your sublime qualities, rhyme is justified

Beyond what traits require of descriptions

هَلْ تَضُمُّ الطَّاقَاتُ مَا تَحْتوِيهِ

رَوْضةٌ مِنْ حِلىً وَمِنْ أَعْرَافِ

Can spaces contain what they hold

Of a garden of adornments and manners?

بِأَبِي وَالعَزِيزِ مِنْ ذَاتِ نَفْسِي

ذَلِك النُّبلُ وَالوِدَادُ الصَّافِي

By my father and the dear one, my very soul

That nobility, that pure affection

وَالوَفاءُ المَصْدُوقُ قَوْلاً وَفِعْلاً

لِلْحِمَى إِذْ يَعِزُّ فِي القَوْمِ وَافِ

And truthful loyalty, in word and deed

To defend, when honored among all tribes

وَالقَضَاءُ الرَّفِيعُ يَصْدُرُ عَنْ رَأْيٍٍ

حَصِيفٍ وَعَنْ تقىً وَعَفافِ

And lofty judgment, stemming from wise

Discretion, piety and chastity

والبَيانُ الرِقيقُ تَبْدُو المَعَانِي

باهِرَاتٍ فِي ثَوْبِهِ الشَّفافِ

And refined rhetoric, meanings shine

Radiant in its diaphanous raiment

وَالحَدِيثُ الرَّشِيقُ يُعْطِي النَّدَامَى

شَهْوَةَ النَّفسِ مِنْ خِلاَلِ السلاَفِ

And elegant discourse gives consolation

To souls through generations of ancestors

وَسخاءُ المِتْلاَفِ يُؤْمِنُ إِيَما

ناً صَحِيحاً بِالرَّازِقِ المِخْلاَفِ

And accustomed generosity reassures

True faith in the Provider, the Eternal

والسَّماحُ الَّذِي تَنَزهَ عَنْ مَرْمى

مُرِيبٍ وَجلَّ عَنْ إِسْفَافِ

And magnanimity, aloof from suspicion’s

Range, transcending profligacy

يَا أَرَقَّ الوَرَى فُؤاداً وَأَنْدَا

هُمْ يَداً بِالصِّلاَتِ وَالأَلْطافِ

O most gentle of heart and open of hand

With prayers and blessings among mortals

كمْ لِسَانٍ يُثْنِي عَلَيْك وَقَلْبٍ

أَنْتَ مِنه مصَوَّرٌ فِي الشَّغافِ

How many tongues praise you, how many hearts

Paint your image on their tablets

هَذِهِ حَفْلَةٌ أُقِيمَتْ لإِقْرارٍ

بِفَضْلٍ ولم تُقَمْ لاِزْدِلاَفِ

This is a gathering held to acknowledge

Merit, not staged for showmanship

فِي مَكَانٍ بِهِ يدُ البِرِّ تَجْلُو

رأْفَةَ اللهِ بِالمِرَاضِ الضِّعافِ

In a place where the hand of righteousness

Reveals God's mercy for the weak

بَارَكَ اللهُ فِي نَوَابِغِ طِبٍّ

شَأْنُهُمْ فِيهِ لَيْسَ شَأْنَ احْتِرافِ

God bless the stars of medicine

Their status in it is no mere craft

نَظَّموهَا وَلَيْسَ فِي النَّظمِ بِدْع

وَعَلَى رَأْسِهِمْ أَمِيرُ قَوَافِ

They composed it, nothing novel in the verse

With the Emir of Endowment at the helm

مُتْرَعُ الأَصْغَرَيْنِ عِلْماً وَفَناً

وَكِلاَ المَشْرَعَيْنِ عذْبٌ وَشافِ

Youngest in knowledge and art of the two noble streams

Both fresh and sweet water springs

يَا وَزِيرَ الأَوْقَافِ منْ كَانَ أَوْلَى

أَنْ يُولَّى وِزَارةَ الأَوْقَافِ

O Minister of Endowments, who could be more deserving

To hold the post of Endowments Minister

مِنْ فَتىً عاش وَهْوَ فِي كُلِّ حَالٍ

كافِلٌ حَاجَةَ الفقِيرِ وكَافِ

Than one who lived bestowing in every state

Sustenance to the needy and helpless

وَإلى بابِهِ سَعَى قَبْلَ أَنْ يَسْعَى

إِلى بابِهَا حرِيبٌ وَعَافِ

And sought his door before the greedy arrived

At it, or the indifferent and aloof

ذاكَ قَاضِي الحُقُوقِ فِي مَعْنَييْهَا

بِالنَّدى تَارَةً وَبِالإْنصَافِ

He is the judge of rights, at times with benevolence

At other times with equity

فهنِيئاً لَك المَقَامُ الَّذِي كُنْتَ

لَهُ صَالِحاً بِغيْرِ خِلاَفِ

So congratulations on the position you held

Worthily, without contention

وَهَنِيئاً لك احْتِفَاءُ كِرَامٍ

جَمعتْهمْ رِحَابُ هذَا الطِّرافِ

And congratulations on the honor of nobles

Brought together in the halls of this manor
