يَا حَبِيباً مَا لِي سِوَاهُ حَبِيبُ

وَبِهِ كَانَ مِنْ صِبَايَ هِيَامِي

O my beloved, I have none but you, my love

And with you has been my passion since my youth

أَنْتَ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ أَلِيفَ شَبَابِي

لَمْ تُطِبْ لِي نَضَارَةُ الأَيَّامِ

If you were not the companion of my prime

The days would not be joyful for me

لَسْتُ أُخْفِي عَلَيْكَ سِرّاً أَلِيمَا

هُوَ شَكْوَى دَفِينَةٌ فِي عِظَامِي

I do not hide from you a painful secret

It is a suppressed lament in my bones

كُلُّ شَيْءٍ تَهْوَاهُ أَهْوَاهُ إِلاَّ

أَنْ أَرَى لِي شَرِيكَةً فِي غَرَامِي

Everything I love, I love for your sake

Except to see for myself a partner in my passion

وَبِوَدِّي لَوْ كُنْتَ لِي لِيَ وَحْدِي

أَنِّي أَقْصَرْتُ عَنْكَ مَلامِي

With my love, if only you were mine, mine alone

I have fallen short of you, for that I blame myself

مَا الَّذِي جَدَّ يَا حَبِيبَةَ قَلْبِي

وَذِمَامِي كَمَا عَهِدْتِ ذِمَامِي

What has befallen, o beloved of my heart

And my prot�g�, as was your wont, my prot�g�

هَذِهِ الرَّايَةُ الَّتِي مَلِكَتْ قَلْبَكَ

هَمِّي فِي يَقْظَتِي وَمَنَامِي

This banner which has conquered your heart

Is my preoccupation awake and in my dreams

فَهْيَ كُلُّ لَحْظَةٍ شُغْلُكَ الشَّا

غِلُ رَأْدَ الضُّحَى وَتَحْتَ الظَّلامِ

So it is, every moment, your main concern

In the radiance of dawn and beneath the shadows

إِحْذَرِي يَا حَبِيبَةَ القَلْبِ هُمَا

لَيْسَ إِلاَّ وَهْماً مِنَ الأَوْهَامِ

Beware, o beloved of the heart, of cares

That are naught but delusions of the mind

يَا حَبِيبِي أَنَرْتَ ذِهْنِي وَأَشْبَعْتَ

فُؤَادِي زَهْواً بِهَذَا الكَلامِ

O my darling, you have enlightened my thoughts and saturated

My heart with delight with these words

لَيْسَ فِيمَا يُصَانُ أَجْدَرُ مِنْ رَايَ

ةِ مِصْرَ بِالصَّوْنِ وَالإِكْرَامِ

There is nothing more deserving of protection

Than Egypt's banner, with safeguarding and honour

أَنَا أَفْدِيكَ يَا حَبِيبِي وَتَفْدِيهَا

وَيَفْدِيكُمَا جَمِيعُ الأَنَامِ

I ransom you, my darling, and it ransoms you

And all people ransom you both

بَلْ تَعَالَيْ نَنْشُدُ كِلانَا وَكُونِي

خيْرَ عَوْنٍ لَصَبَّكِ المُسْتَهَامِ

Rather, come, let us both recite, and be

The best support for your confused lover

رَايَةَ اليُسْرِ فِي صَفَاءِ اللَّيَالِي

رَايَةَ النَّصْرِ فِي اعْتِكَارِ الصِّدَامِ

The banner of ease in the serenity of the nights

The banner of victory in the fury of clashes

طَاوِلي كُلَّ رَايَةٍ وَأَعِزِّي

قَوْمَنَا سَرْمَداً عَلَى الأَقْوَامِ
