Three years have passed, my prince, since you left

Yet you still live within my heart and mind

How could I ever forget, not for a moment

My lifetime's companion, beloved and aide

How could I forget your kindness or your grace

Or the cheer of your radiant smile

How forget your valour whenever faced

With situations dire, though cowards recoiled

How forget your judiciousness paired with resolve

In your magnanimous heart and soul

How forget the generosity of that noble one

And the gentle humor of that mighty lord

None in the East compared to you my prince

For you turned cruelty into mercy and good

Stature like a spear, face like the dawn

Awe like a lion, charm like sweet perfume

You built for the future as wisely as any could

To prepare for what destiny might bring

Oh, if only you were granted one more year

To fulfill the plans made in your final days

Your people would have seen such generosity

    A peerless openhandedness and giving

But cruel death obstructed this noble aim

And afflicted the poor with its bitter sting

If perchance you faltered, still you excelled

In all you accomplished in your years brief

Who can blame my tears, for one so great as you

No loss can compare, who then can blame my grief

Though complaint is fruitless when fate has ruled

It comforts the broken heart to voice its woe
