1. نَدَاكَ نَيْلٌ بِحَاجَاتِ البِلاَدِ وَفَى

    وَقَلْبُكَ السَّمحُ يَأْبَى أَنْ يَقُولَ كَفَى

    The Nile called to you with the needs of the country, and you fulfilled.

    Your generous heart refuses to say "enough".

  2. قَلْبٌ كَبِيرٌ تَحُوطُ الشَّعبَ رَأفَتُهُ

    هَلاَّ بِصَاحِبِهِ فِي حِكْمِهِ رَأَفَا

    A great heart whose compassion encompasses the people.

    Would that its owner show it clemency in his rule,

  3. إِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ سَرَفاً فِي جَوْدِهِ أَفَمَا

    يَرَى التَّمادِي فِي مَجْهُودِهِ سَرَفَا

    If he finds no excess in his generosity, does he not

    See excess in his efforts?

  4. فَارُوقُ يَا صَائِنُ المُلْكَ العَظِيمَ وَيَا

    مُجَدِّداً عَهْدَ فَارُوقَ كَمَا سَلَفَا

    O Farouk, protector of the mighty kingdom, renewer

    Of the era of Farouq as it was before.

  5. ذَاكَ الصَّلاَحُ الَّذِي عَزَتْ خِلاَفَتُهُ

    بِهِ قَدِيماً أُعِيدَ اليَوْمَ مُؤْتَنِفَا

    That righteousness with which his caliphate was mighty

    Made anew today, undertaking again,

  6. مَاذَا عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الأَعْبَاءِ تَحْمِلُهَا

    وَمَا تَكَادُ تَرَى فِي حَمْلِهَا كَلَفَا

    What burdens on you that you take on

    And hardly seem to find any difficulty in bearing?

  7. نَفْدِيكَ مِنْ سَاهِرٍ لِلشَّعبِ يُوسِعُهُ

    بِرّاً وَيَدفَعُ عَنْهُ البُؤْسَ وَالأَزَفَا

    We ransom you from one who works late for the people, easing

    Them with good and warding want and gloom from them.

  8. وَمَا يَنِي بِرُقِيِّ الشَّعبِ مُشْتَغلاً

    وَبِالنَّجاحِ عَلَى أَلوَانِهِ كَلِفَا

    And you do not cease striving for the advancement of the people

    And success in its various forms.

  9. يَرْعى العَلِيلَ الَّذِي عُزَّتْ سَلاَمَتُهُ

    وَالطِّفْلُ فِي المهْدِ وَالشَّيْخُ الَّذِي دَلَفَا

    You tend the weak whose safety has been made mighty

    And the babe in the cradle and the old man who has lost his vigor.

  10. وَقَبْلَهُ كَانَ جُوعٌ لاَ اكْتِرَاثَ لَهُ

    وَكَانَ عُرْيٌ وَلَمْ يُسْتَرْ وكانَ حَفَا

    Before you there was hunger with no one to care

    And nakedness with none to clothe, and ruin.

  11. عَمَّت أَيادِيَهُ حَتَّى لاَ يُرَى طَرَفٌ

    فِي مُلْكِهِ لَمْ يُصِبْ مِنْ فَيْضِهَا طَرَفَا

    Your hands encompassed until no corner could be seen

    In your kingdom that was not blessed by their overflow.

  12. يَا طِيبَ يَوْمِ افْتِتَاحٍ تَمَّ رَوْنَقُهُ

    بِالحُسْنِ مُخْتَلِفاً وَالحَمْدُ مُؤْتَلِفَا

    O excellent day of opening made complete in its charm

    With beauty, varied, and thanks, brought together.

  13. فِي مَحْفِلٍ وَذُؤْاباتُ البِلاَدِ بِهِ

    ضَمَّ المَعَالِيَ وَالأَحْسَابَ وَالشُّرَفَا

    In an assembly whose notables of the land gathered in it

    The lofty, the honored, and the noble.

  14. أَوْفَى المَلِيكُ عَلَيْهِ فِي تَعَهُّدِهِ

    صَرْحاً مُشِيداً عَلَى الإِحْسَانِ قَدْ وَقَفَا

    The King fulfilled it with his patronage

    A palace built on beneficence that stopped and stood still.

  15. فِي أَعْمُرِ الأَرْضِ مُسْتَشْفىً غَلاَ وَعَلاَ

    هَيْهَاتَ يبْلُغُ وَصَفَ ما بِهِ اتَّصفَا

    In the most populous land, a hospital, lofty and high--

    Far from describing what qualities it encompassed!

  16. بَيْتٌ تُدَاوَى بهِ الأَبْدَانُ مِنْ سُقُمٍ

    وَفِي بَشَاشَتِهِ لِلنَّاظِرِينَ شَفَا

    A place where bodies are healed of every sickness,

    And in its cheerfulness is healing for those who look upon it.

  17. مقْسَمٌ أُحْكِمَ التَّقسِيمَ مَنْ يَرَهُ

    يَرَ المَنَافِعَ فِيهِ أُلْبِسَتْ طَرَفَا

    Apportioned, its divisions perfected, whoever sees it

    Sees benefits clothed in every corner.

  18. لِلْطُّب فِيهِ مُعِدَّاتٌ وَأَجْهِزَةٌ

    صِيغَتْ وَصَيَّرَهَا إِتْقَانُهَا تحَفَا

    In it devices and tools for medicine,

    Fashioned, its workmanship making it a treasure.

  19. إِذَا رَنَا أَلَمٌ مِنْهُ رَأَى أَمَلاً

    فِي رَحْبَةِ الدَّارِ يَجْلُو رَوْضَةً أَنَفَا

    When one despairs of pain, he sees hope

    In the open space of the house, an enchanting garden.

  20. يُضْفِي الهِلاَلُ عَلَيْهِ نُورَ رَحْمَتِهِ

    وَنُورُهَا بَلْسَمُ الأَرْوَاحِ حَيْثُ صفَا

    The Crescent sheds the light of its mercy upon it,

    And its light is a balm for spirits, where it was pure.

  21. بَنَاهُ يُوسُفُ لاَ يَأْلُوهُ إِخْوَتُهُ

    عَوْناً وَكُلٌّ لِذِكْرَى مَنْ نَمَاهُ وَفى

    Joseph built it, his brothers cannot ruin it,

    A help, and each is to the memory of those who enabled and fulfilled.

  22. وَفِي زِيَادَتِهِمْ آثَارُ مُنْجِبِهِمْ

    مَعْنىً مِنَ الكَرَمِ المُورُوثِ قَدْ لَطفَا

    In their increase are traces of their creators

    A quality of inherited generosity that was gentle.

  23. كَانَ سَمْعَانُ بَانِيهِ كَعَادَتِهِ

    وَكَمْ لِسَمْعانَ مَعْرُوفُ بِهِ عُرِفا

    Simeon built it, as was his custom,

    And how much good is known in it for Simeon!

  24. فاروقُ مِصْرَ المفدَّى هَلْ رَأَى سَبَباً

    لِلخَيْرِ إِلاَّ عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ عَطَفَا

    Farouk, deliverer of Egypt, did he ever see a reason

    For good but that he inclined with kindness toward its people?

  25. كَمْ مَأْرَبٍ صَالِحٍ بِالعَزْم حَقَّقهُ

    وَطَارِئٍ فَادِحٍ عَنْ قَوْمِهِ كَشَفَا

    How many excellent enterprises did he accomplish by resolve

    And how many grave perils did he ward from his people?

  26. حَسْبُ الكِنانَةِ صَوْنَاً تَحْتَ إِمْرَتِهِ

    أَنَّ المُرَامِينَ عَنْهَا وَحَّدُوا الهَدَفَا

    It suffices as protection, under his command,

    That those who shoot arrows at it make it their one target.

  27. يَحْيَا المِليكُ دُعَاءً إِنْ هَتَفْتَ بِهِ

    فَمَا اللِّسَانُ بَلِ الْقَلْبُ الَّذِي هَتَفَا

    Long live the King! If you call out to him,

    It is not just the tongue, but the heart that calls.
